Cleanup Tool hangs as well as installer...

Thread needs solution

Hi,

after the installation of a wrong SATA Driver (including a BSOD) Acronis no longer working.
Kaspersky had the same problem but after a reinstallation everything is fine. So I decided to reinstall Acronis as well.
But the uninstaller didn’t work and the cleanup tool hangs at „Removing Drivers“ (also in safe mode). After canceling the cleanuptool and rebooting it is possible to start the setup but it also stops moving right bevor the end and stays there.

The last entry in the log is “MSIGEN (18.0.6613):RunHelperApp: Command line = '-asz_install'”.

Is there any other possibility, to get it back running, besides reinstallation of the OS (win 16 64bit)?

thx

Sebastian, welcome to these user forums.

Which version of the Acronis Cleanup Tool are you using - if not the latest, then please try this from the link in my signature below.

Do you have any System Restore points on your computer from before the time when the wrong SATA driver was installed that you could try restoring back to?

You could also try doing a SFC /SCANNOW to check the integrity of all the system files for your computer.

Finally, you could try doing an in-place upgrade of your Windows OS, I assume that this is Windows 10 rather than Win 16 unless you know something that hasn't been shared with the rest of the world?
See webpage: Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade for details of how to do this.

Hi,

sry of course its windows 10 and not 16 (bad typo...).

I already ran sfc /scannow, Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth and Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth.
Everything seams OK.

The cleanup tool I used has the version 2.0 and I got it from the same acronis support page.

I dont really want to restore cause it took a while till I realized the backup wasnt running (1st December) and would really prefer to reinstall acronis.

Are there any logs I can take a look into or "clean" my registry?

Sebastian, the only logs you can look at are the Installer and InstallerUI logs which are both found in the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs folder.

The Log File Viewer app (link in my signature below) can be used to view these files in a more friendly format than just reading raw XML data.

Given that this issue started out from a bad device driver, I would still recommend doing an in-place upgrade of your Windows 10 OS, which is the same as happens when MS releases a new build such as 1607 Anniversary Update.

Hi,

thanks for your help. After the In-Place Upgrade the installation went just fine.

But the next error came up right away. Everytime I select a destination (usually my Synology NAS) the GUI goes black and the application crashes.
I think this is as far as I will go and the solution for me will be switching to another backup application (AOMEI or Windows Backup).

Thanks for your time and help!
