Data Recover - Preparing never progresses

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I'm trying to restore a full system to a desktop. I boot from my Acronis created usb media. Then go to recovery to delete everything and create new partitions. I select the TIB file from an external hard disk. It says preparing and never progresses.

I have validated the backup and actually tried it on another machine. Works fine following the same process. The desktop that it worked on is the same configuration as the one that is failing.

I have been on a support call for 2 1/2 hours and we're not making any progress so far. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Is your external disk connected via USB?  If yes try connecting the disk to another USB port preferably to one on the back of the motherboard if possible and supposing this is a desktop machine.

Ann, please see the attached document and ensure you are following the steps outlined there.

Hi Ann,

Is this the same reference from your other post, where WinPE resolved the issue?

Or is the recovery still stalling now that you're using the WinPE bootable rescue media?

If it is still having issues, and only on this particular machine (is it the Dell?), I would suggest using the MVP WinPE builder too (it's linked at the bottom of this post).

Additionally, before running it, download the Dell driver pack for your particular model, extract the contents of the driver .cab, make sure you have just the 64-bit drivers and not the 32-bit ones and put them in the 64-bit driver folder of the MVP WinPE builder.  Our tool will inject the drivers for you into the custom WinPE and should help rule out any driver issues.

You don't need both - I'd start with the WinPE driver pack only.  If that doesn't help, you can get the drivers specfically for the version of ADK that you're using and inject the full system driver pack.

By the way, what version of ADK are you using to build your WinPE?

Also, are you making sure to boot the recovery media in UEFI mode and not legacy mode (assuming you have a UEFI OS install on this new Dell hardware).  After rebooting (not shutdown - use a reboot/restart in case fastboot is enabled to ensure the system fully shuts down before starting up).  Then start tapping F12 to get to your one-time boot menu.  You want to make sure you're using the UEFI option to boot the media and not legacy.  Screenshots for another Dell with bios options, one-time boot, and how Acronis looks when booting to UEFI vs legacy mode can be found here: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/121829#comment-378318
