Folders must never be checked, or despite unchecking them they'll be backed up to Acronis Cloud anyway

Thread needs solution

After first checking the entire secondary (F:) drive for a newly created Files and Folders backup, then unchecking excluded folders BEFORE clicking "OK" to accept the selections, all folders on the disk are backed up to Acronis Cloud anyway. This is despite the drive passing chkdsk.

It's possible to avoid backing up folders by checking each individual folder that's intended to be backed up, WITHOUT EVER CHECKING any excluded folder, before clicking OK.

Users can't reasonably be expected to know that once a folder is checked it can't be excluded. I opened a support case before figuring out the workaround, so support is aware of the issue, but it's not clear that a bug report has been filed.

Problems with files and folders exclusions have been reported previously in the forum and Acronis have been alerted to this, so thank you for opening a support case for this issue - the more users that do so will help Acronis development to find a resolution for this problem.

I'm not sure if this hotfix would resolve this or not, but worth a shot.

59095: Acronis True Image 2017 Patch 5555

Patch 5555 of Acronis True Image 2017 needs to be installed, if you experience one of these issues:

Solution

To resolve these issues install patch 5555:

  1. Make sure you have build 5554 installed. You can check current build number on the Account tab (see this article, if you need help checking build number). If you have an older build installed, download build 5554 from your Acronis account and install it (you can find step-by-step instructions in this article).
  2. Close Acronis True Image.
  3. Download the patch and unpack it.
  4. Double-click the installation file.
  5. Wait until installation completes.

Rob, thanks for posting about the patch 5555 - I had forgotten about that one having a fix for some of the exclusions issues.

I had a very similar problem where subfolders were being backed up even though they were unchecked.

Not sure if it as you say (which is exactly how i did I it too) or if subfolders just always get backed up...

I found it works correctly when backing up to local disk interestingly.

Reported it to support who claimed it was not a bug when it clearly is, so asked for it be raised as such.

worked around the issue by adding the folder into the exclusions tab in the end

edit: this is on the 5555 patch

Hi everybody,

as my name suggests I'm a potential customer that's using the trial version for evaluation.

I found this precise issue and for me, regretfully, this means no sale because I have an upload speed of 1Mbit and I must be very selective with my folders and subfolders that I want to backup. Yes there are workarounds, but if I'm buying a product I want it as functional as possible.

The problem is exactly the same one explained by cattledogit and Michael Asbury and only applies when 'Cloud Backup' is selected as the backup destination. Selecting a local destination works fine (as Michael Asbury already said). I didn't try with network destinations or anything else.

The issue is still present in the patched build (5555).

(Sorry for my English, it's not my first language)

I have sent a PM to General Manager Gaidar and Support Engineer Ekaterina in hopes that this thread is reviewed and investigated.  I would also suggest that everyone submit feedback through the app with their findings/experience with this feature and include a link to this thread as well.

There is a newer beta version of 2017 that some of the MVP's are testing.  Since you're on a trial anyway, I'm wondering if you might be able to get a copy of it to see if it addresses the issue as well as it seems to have many other bug fixes (but is still a work in progress and not finalized).

Hello Everyone,

Just is just to confirm you that we are aware of this issue and it is still being worked on. For now if you plan to upload an entire disk partition to the Cloud with some exclusions, you can use "Disk and partitions" type of backup and specify unwanted folders under "Exclusions" tab in backup options.

Regards,

Slava
