Acronis True Image Fails to Clone or Restore After Reboot
Hi all, Happy Pre new Year.
I just bought a Crucial SSD which came with th Acronis Sw (which I used w/o any issues for my desktop) for installation into my Daughters Dell Inspiron Laptop.
As the subject titles says, nothing happened. I read the FAQ and disabled the card reader, still nothing.
I read somewhere I should use the Acronis rescue media, which I put on a dvd, but can't seem to find naything in the dell laptop to make it start on the dvd (it seems to have secure boot enabled).
I even contemplated removing the laptop HD and trying through my desktop, but that has its own complexities.
I really dont want to return the ssd, so could use some help. I'm hoping its something simple that I'm just missing somewhere ?
Could use some guidance

I'd also recommend building a USB flash drive as some systems just won't UEFI boot from a DVD - something in the bios restricts it so only legacy (have not seen that in Dell's yet, but just in case... plus usb booting will be much faster than DVD booting).
And... Most of the new Dell laptops are coming with PCIE NVME hard drives set with the SATA mode as RAID (even for a single hard drive). The default Linux media doesn't have RAID controller drivers so may not pick up your hard drive if you have a PCIE NVME one. In that case, you want to build WinPE rescue media and can use our MVP winpe tool to do it much easier - just download and install the Windows 10 ADK (you can use Win 10 ADK on Win 7 - Win 10) and then start the MVP tool, it does the rest and injects IRST drivers for the RAID setting in the bios.
Links to the MVP tool and Windows ADK are below.

Happy New Year :-)
Yes, system specs would help:
Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 (I think 2013)
Win 10, 64 Bit, 8 GB Memory
I7 3632QM
Re Secure boot etc.. read in the forums that have to go into Bios and enable "legacy boot" which then allows me to specify boot order. That should also tell me whether it will accept the DVD or have to put on a usb stick. Lets hope its as easy as that.
Any way of finding out how HD is set (Bobbo, u mentioned new Dells, this one is from 2013) as to whether RAID or regualr ?
Lets assume all of the above works, that I get into Acronis Rescue media thru DVD or USB stick.
What do I do next ?
On the plus side, Neweggs Holiday return poilicy has been extended to end Jan so do have some time ebfore I decide to give up or not.
Thanks again for the reply comments

You can find out how HD is set or more correctly your storage controller mode using Windows Disk Management Disk List View.
Open Disk Management, click on the View tab.
In the resultant menu hover your mouse over Top.
In the resultant menu select Disk list.
Look to the far right of your storage drive for your controller mode which will be shown under Device Type.

Oh my, just did so, lists as Raid :-(
Looks like I have some work to do....
So much easier on my desktop than this Dell Laptop

I would recommend the MVP WinPE Builder tool for an easy solution to creating a WinPE USB thumb drive with the necessary drivers. The tool has the option to inject those drivers fro you and is quite simple to use. I would recommend using the Basic version which should fill youor needs. You can get further details and the download link (Google Drive) for the tool at the link below:

Yes, use the MVP WinPE builder. It will add the necessary IRST RAID controller drivers for you and you should be in business. RAID setups (even if using a single drive) certainly makes things more complicated, but only because we need to add these drivers into our Rescue Media since Linux doesn't provide them. Once you have the Windows ADK installed and run the MVP winPE tool (it's just a .bat script), it will add the necessary drivers for you. If you want full driver support for your dell, you can also grab either the matching Dell WinPE driver .cab, exctract it and put the proper acrhitcture in the MVP driver folder (assuming 64-bit) or you can do the same for the exact computer model.
All Dell drivers for WinPE and/or specific Dell models are available from Dell here (they really aren't necessary for Acronis WinPE, but if you want all system drivers to be available in your WinPE, you can add them).

Hi, downloaded it and when try to run gets the "can't find kits root, script will exit".

Did you install the Windows PE ADK before running the tool? Look at Bobbo's signature link in his post at number (09), WinPE10 which is a direct link to download the WinPE for Windows 10 ADK which you need to install so that the MVP tool will work.

Yes, it requires that ADK must be installed and it should be a newer version of the ADK - if you have no ADK, or an older version of the ADK (8.0 or older), please either install ADK or upgrade to at least an 8.1 version. I would recommend you grab the Windows 10 ADK 1511 (1607 should be OK to use now too, but may not work with some other Acronis products if have Disk Director or Snap Deploy as well - if not, 1607 is fine).

Keeps us posted and let us know what you think of the tool and the resulting WinPE. Also curious if you're buildoing with the basic 5.9 version or advanced 7.x version? The are equally easy to use. the adavanced version just gives you a lot of extras in the WinPE that makes it more suitable as a temporary working OS (almost like a full OS in many regards with the extra features).

Hi all, while I was trying to figure this out, my neighbor used his copy of Macrium to make an equivalent clone of my Dell HD and which worked.
Based on your comments, it would have been as equally easy to follow your instructions where the only difference I can see is changing the secure boot to legacy, specific to the Dell HD.
I have another Crucial SSD which is going into my Desktop , and where Acronis True Image comes into play as usual.
Thanks again for all your help.

Yup - Macrium builds WinPE. They provide the ADK files (winpe.wim) as an option to download. We should be able to do that with the MVP tool down the road as well, but need clarificaiton if we are allowed to distribute those files with the tool or not since Microsoft prohibits distributing WinPE. I believe the limitation is only for distributing bootable winpe and not the components to build it, but that is where the jury is still out.
Either it is OK and that's why Macrium is doing it, or Macrium is paying Microsoft for the rights to distribute it...
