ATI2017 Mounting image

Thread needs solution

I am trying to mount a new image of my c drive to check a few things and am following the new instructions (since ATI2014) but when I attempt to engage the mounting wizard I get nothing.  I proceeded to try repairing but that didn't change anything.  Windows 10 has been pretty good for me but this problem might be related...just don't know.  Also when I double click on the image I get nothing.  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.  C. Charles, did you install ATIH 2017 over the top of an earlier version of ATI, i.e. you mention 2014?

If so, then the Acronis True Image 2017 FAQ document (see side column, Useful Links) states:

If you already have Acronis True Image 2014 or older versions, you need to delete these first and then install Acronis True Image 2017.

I would suggest doing a normal uninstall (via the Control Panel) then download / run the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link in my signature below) - run as Administrator - then restart to complete the cleanup.

Then reinstall the full ATIH 2017 build 5554 installer (download from your Acronis account if needed) and see if this problem is resolved.

Thanks Steve. I did everything you advised and am happy to report that I can now double click and open the .tib image but still can't mount the image.  Im pretty sure I did everything right as it went off very smoothly but when I right clicked the image and clicked on ATI that dropped down, the mount and verify window opened but after entering  the administrator permission password, nothing more happened.  Not to become a bother but just wanted to get back to you to see if you had any other thoughts that might work.  C. You have to actually be logged in as an admin to use mount features as Windows only let's you have one Windows explorer instance running.  The work-a-round is to use a second admin instance of Windows file explorer and launch it with "run as admin" credentials, but there's a a little bit of leg-work to bypass Windows default setup of this - it's not hard, but is necessary.  It works - I do this at work so that I can stay logged in with my regular account, but get to certain shares that only my admin account has access to...

This works for Windows 7, 8.0, 8.1 and 10

  1. Start the Registry Editor as an Administrative User.
  2. Navigate to, take ownership of, and grant yourself (preferably administrators) Full Control permission to the key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\{CDCBCFCA-3CDC-436f-A4E2-0E02075250C2}
  3. Rename the value runas to _runas
  4. Close Regedit.
  5. Create a shortcut on the Desktop to C:\Windows\Explorer.exe
  6. Right-click the shortcut and choose Run as administrator. This will open Explorer in the security context of the Administrator.

 

 

Charles, sorry that I didn't consider that you were not using an Administrator level user for this issue - this is a known issue as reported in post: 127825: Cannot mount password-protected backup as non-admin user for which I and other users submitted support cases to Acronis Support.  See the official response in post #12 of the above topic which confirms that administrator access is needed.
