True Image 2017 Premium - Why the silence?
I have read posts here today about True Image 2017 Premium. I have now realized that Acronis has released a new variant of TI2017 but why does not Acronis inform me, one of their customers?
When other software companies releases something new one gets ton of mails but as of now i haven´t got any from Acronis. Usually those mails are full with information with the aim to make me use it or buy it.
Why are Acronis so silent? *just-wondering*

I too received an upgrade offer to 2017NG Premium at a very reasonable price. However the cost to renew for 3 computers will be 149.99 next year. Too rich for me.
- Log in to post comments

It is a free upgrade for me.
"FREE for a limited time – upgrade to Acronis True Image New Generation, a premium level subscription. This includes all future upgrades to premium at no additional cost."

Jan, the upgrade may well be free but I doubt that your subscription renewal (required for the Premium version) will be free when it comes due, which is what Thomas was referring to.
I personally will not be paying the price indicated by Thomas to get features that I either don't need or won't use - my preference remains to use the perpetual license versions - even Cloud is not a necessity as far as I am concerned.

I found this in the knowledge base #58527:
Free upgrade to Acronis True Image New Generation (Premium Subscription)
Customers who purchased Acronis True Image 2017 subscriptions (Standard) between August 22, 2016 – January 18 2017 are eligible for a free upgrade to Acronis True Image New Generation (Premium Subscription). These Customers will receive a link to the free install inside the product. Customers who purchase Acronis True Image 2017 subscription (Standard) on or after January 18th, 2017, will not receive a free upgrades to Premium. Purchase of Premium is required starting on January 18th, 2017.

I agree with Mr. Steve Smith !
I am, also, not a fan of subscription and prefer the perpetual license which allows one to skip a new version and continue using the version that is preferred until a more desireable version arises.... whew ! that was a mouthful.... along with that, I am not a fan of the cloud or cloning... extra hdd's are cheap enough these days. oh, and I also received a "Free Upgrade" to Premium email.... I'll pass on that for now.
I'll stick with testing the basic TI2017 on a spare machine and continue using my hard working and reliable TI2016 for now.

There seems to be an anomoly in the free upgrade policy (which I have reported). I would have thought that those who purchased a subscription before the date in August should also get a free update to NG.

The offer I received was for 9.99 upgrade. I purchased 2017 on 11/25/16. No mention of a free upgrade.

There is only a free upgrade to 2017 New Generation Subscription Premium if you acquired 2017 Subscription - if you have a perpetual licence, there is no change in your postion. They are working on a a new build of ATI 2017 for those who have a perpetual licence, and there is a post in another thread by Ekaterina indicating that it will be avaiable in a month or so.

This is what I received in eamil on 01/19/17....
Below is a copy and paste of part of the email regarding the new NG. The wording to me means FREE... Actually, the way they have worded it, they are saying includes ALL Future Upgrades to Premium at NO additional cost... hummm... Of course, this is a subscription and with any subscription there is a term limit... Term limits are good for presidents and should be instituted for congress too.... that is why I do not prefer subscriptions and use my basic 2017 for testing only and rely on my TI2016 workhorse for the real grunt work.

Steve, as far as I am aware Acronis subscriptions have always provided for free upgrades to new versions of the subscribed product within the subscription period, so the wording doesn't really suggest any change to this policy.
What will not be free is the cost of renewing a subscription with a suitable markup for the Premium version I am sure.

Steve Smith,
I agree with you totally. I use 2017 basic for testing purposes and still use 2016 for the heavy grunt work.
Like you, I am not a fan of subscriptions but the free upgrade will give customers a new choice.
Have a wonderful day. We thank you and the other MVP's for your service to this forum. It is appreciated !

I too do not like subscriptions and will stick with the perpetual model. I recently dropped Shadowprotect becasue they went to a subscription model only. I currently do not use cloud backups but am cinsidering it only for my wifes photos which number i the 100's of thousands.

Another issue is it's free for a limited for time, but do not know how to upgrade. I downloaded the file but after install it didnot activated.
Do I get new upgrade serial number for Acronis True Image New Generation (Premium Subscription) ?
Please help.
- Log in to post comments

It is difficult to be definitive about the need for a new serial number. All I had to do was download the NG installer and it worked with my exiting ATI 2017 5 PP/MAC subscription. I did receive one email about 2017 NG but cannot remember the precise content.
You can download NG by logging into you Acronis Account, and going to the download link for ATI 2017, and you are given the choice of 2017 or 2017NG. You can also download 2017NG from the downloads page.

If you are still unsure about the need for a new serial number or not, then please open a Support Case with Acronis for this question as they will be able to give you a definitive answer plus can verify that this is showing correctly in your Acronis account online.

Hello Everyone,
Owners of subscription licenses do not need to enter the serial number at all. The license is activated automatically upon successful login in the software.
Premium subscription assumes the usage of the new build (6116 on Windows and 6065 on Mac), which could be obtained by clicking Downloads under "Acronis True Image" section (do not confuse it with "Acronis True Image 2017" which would be for perpetual licenses) at Acronis account page and then clicking Premium.

Hello Slava,
There is information for the free upgrade to 2017 NG (58527: Upgrading to Acronis True Image 2017)
However, for those that take advantage of the free upgrade to NG now, what does that mean for them when it comes time to renew next year?
I'm assuming that NG prices will be in full effect at that point in time so those that originally purchased a standard subscription could see a significant cost increase? NG is roughly 2x the cost to purchase vs the standard subscription (possibly more as NG is $79.99 on sale right now but listed at $99.99 for a single PC subscritpion license with 1TB storage where the standard subscription is $39.99. If sale prices remain, moving to a 3 PC subscription with the increased storage isn't bad, but still $99 on sale and listed as $149.99 regularly - http://www.acronis.com/en-us/promotion/personal/SEM/Subscription/?gclid=CKyO74vx6tECFYeNswodp5EGgg).
If so, will they be able to downgrade to a standard subscription - if desired?
If downgrading next year, what will the cloud storage be reduced to for the Standard subscription since some were able to receive extra cloud space as part of their standard subscription when purchased this year?
Will they have to remove the entire software application to downgrade to the standard subscription version if this is the route chosen or will there be an application downgrade path?

Hello Bobbo,
Glad to answer your questions as it seems that the free upgrade emails have created a little confusion for some users.
The free upgrade means that as active subscribers, Customers are offered to use the new features for free. It does not mean that all the new features in the future will be sold at additional cost: there could be new features in the non-subscription version as well. It is just that Active Protection and especially Acronis Notary and ASign are so different from all the previous functionality that we have had over years, that a separate license type was introduced for them. If one does not need them - he could stay with Standard subscription or a perpetual license.
Unless something changes in the licensing policy in the future, here is what will happen on the due date for a person who took advantage of this free upgrade offer:
If the automatic renewal is enabled, then the user will be charged the amount listed at http://www.acronis.com/en-us/promotion/personal/SEM/Subscription/?gclid=CKyO74vx6tECFYeNswodp5EGgg. Currently it is $99.99 for a Premium subscription for 1 PC license, $149.99 for three, and $159.99 for a license for five computers. Bear in mind that full prices also could be changed, I am just describing an imaginable situation if the due date was today. Auto-renewal never takes into account any promotional campaings on the website, via email etc. It is allways the standard price.
When a subscription ends, not only the Premium, but any kind of subscription, and the auto-renewal is disabled, the user is at the position he was before buying it. He can choose to buy any kind of license: Premium subcription, Standard, perpetual or any other kind of license that would be available at that time.
The cloud storage quota would be adjusted according to the new licence. The 1 TB that comes with the Premium subscription and the promo 500 GB both will end on the due date. Of course, those who decide to stay with the Premium subscription or re-purchase it will retain the 1 TB, it is part of the Premium offer. We have always had a 30-days grace period after a subscription ends: the data is not deleted right away, but is kept in Acronis Cloud and is available in read mode, waiting for the user to either acquire another year of Acronis Cloud subscription, automatically via the auto-renewal or manually, or download all the files he needs and stop using the service.
There are plans for merging installation files for subscription and non-subscription users into a single installer, like it was before the New Generation launch. If this merge happens, the user will not need to uninstall the program if he decides to switch from a Premium to a perpetual or Standard subscription license. Such user would need to disable the auto-renewal and make the purchase manually, in order to not to be charged the full Premium subscription price. Making a purchase manually on the due date may have its advantage - there might be another promotional campaign and the price could be lower.

Slava

Hi Slava,
Thanks for clarifying. It's important to have that transparency so that customers can make the right decisions on what they may, or should do, to fit their needs. It will be great if there is a single installer and way to revert from ng to standard or vice versa without fully needing to uninstall in those situations. Without a current option to export settings, it's a bit of a pain to have to start all tasks from scratch if/when an uninstall is required and that could help alleviate that requirement.

Slava,
As an active subscriber i wonder where my mail is? :)
That´s why i started this thread since i haven´t heard anything about NG.

Hello Roger,
Glad to answer your question too!
1. The emails about the New Generation release are not sent automatically to all the Customers at once, but rather are distributed in waves. Some users receive emails earlier than others.
2. In one of your communications with us, you must have asked not to send you any emails, neither promotional offers that are controlled from https://account.acronis.com/#/settings, nor any others. Thus, we marked your account with a special "Email Opt Out" mark. That is why you could not receive the email even if your account was in the first waves. I have just cleared that mark so that you would be able to receive emails from us in the future.
Regards,
Slava

I'm upset that this new Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation subscription has build 6116 with fixes for "Credentials are not accepted during connection to an NAS, and the connection fails" while the Acronis True Image 2017 perpetual licenses I recently purchased are still at build 5554 (or 5555 hotfix) and still has the NAS auth bug - preventing my backups from functioning altogether.
This seems like bad PR for Acronis - the appearance is that customers who recently purchased the standard licenses are not getting basic bug fixes to ATI 2017 while Acronis is charging more (and yearly) for a brand new subscription version that already has the fixes.

Jason, welcome to these user forums.
The fix for this and other issues that have been included in the NG build 6116 are coming for the 2017 perpetual license holders as Slava has stated a number of times in various topic posts in this forum - the timing could have been better (from our point of view, the same as yours) but we will see in hopefully in the next 3 - 4 weeks and should be provided via the normal checks for updates within the ATIH 2017 application with no need to download it as a separate installer (as happened with NG).

Confused I just got my ATI 2017 upgrade in Dec and I did not buy a sub as I am tight on money and figured hew at least I be alright for a year with new builds.
Now I got this message when I was using ATI today and it says something about getting the New Generation but I closed that window and now trying to see whats up.
I see New Generation has a new build number looks like it a continuation of the 5554 its 6166.
Do I now have to compete with the ATI names meaning that somwhere down the road the call the software a different name I and I have get that as another upgrade unless I buy a sub?
I going to post this to see whats up.

techman, the introduction of ATIH 2017 New Generation has caused some confusion as this will be available in 2 distinct versions, Standard which is what you currently have with 2017 build 5554, and Premium which comes as build 6116 and introduces Ransomware protection among other new functions. Premium is a Subscription only product.
When the next build update comes for the Standard ATIH 2017 it will probably have a different build number than 6116 and is expected to include some further fixes for issues identified since 2017 NG was introduced, which should then bring the two versions (Standard and Premium) back into line again.
As to being able to identify these two different versions, the desktop icon is the same for both, but when you launch the main application GUI, the difference is obvious as shown by the attached screen shot.
