True Image consuming too much storage

Thread needs solution

Early in January I reported to Acronis Support that Cloud Backup was consuming excessive amounts of storage. I initially purchased 1TB of storage. At the time I had just one PC connected to Cloud backup.   It has less than 300GB of data and programs.  The backup never seemed to finish and by the end of the week my account showed that there was 923GB backed up to the cloud.  I reported this to Acronis and they responded that this was a bug and would be fixed in a future release.  To date there has not been a release that fixes this and they still say that it will be fixed in a future release.

I'm wondering if I'm the only one that sees this as an issue or are others experiencing this also?  I have 25 years experience in software development and would have thought this issue would have been treated as an emergency to fix.

Peter, welcome to these user forums.

I have not seen any similar posts from other users for the problem you describe, but this is a problem that would be very difficult for us to look into in these user forums as we have no access to the Cloud servers or systems involved.

If you have an Acronis case number from when you originally reported this problem to them, then I would send a chaser about that case.  If you don't have a case number then raise a new support case to ask about this situation, especially if you are getting close to your Cloud storage threshold of 1TB.

You could also try sending a Private Message to one of the Acronis engineers who visit the forums such as Ekaterina or Slava and refer them to this forum topic plus give our case number if available.

I have not had this issue. Are you breaking down backup tasks? With the amout you are backing up, it is probably a good idea. If it is a desktop, the best approach is to have OS and programs on a separate drive (preferably an SSD for best peformance) and had data files on separate HDD. You can use different backup tasks for different data categories (you can do with by using separate partitions and doind disk/partition back) or by doing a series of folder based tasks.

Hello Peter,

If you have not installed the build 6116 yet ("Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation"), I recommend you updating. For that, click "Downloads" at https://account.acronis.com/#/products, then choose "Premium", download the installer, launch it and click Update.

Besides the new features, it contains fixes for a number of technical issues reported for the past several months.

Regards,

Slava

Thank you for this information.  My version, 5554 says it's up to date.  I will download 6116 today.

Peter, please be aware of the differences in licensing models between your 5554 and the new 6116 versions - if you have a perpetual license (buy once use forever) then installing 6116 Premium will require that you move to a Subscription license, (buy now, buy again every 1 or 2 years) where the software stops working for all key functions apart from being able to restore a previously created backup if you don't renew the subscription.

Acronis have promised that an update for the standard 2017 version will be coming in around a month for those users who don't want to move to the 2017 New Generation Premium subscription version.

Hi everybody,

many thanks so far. It seems bit strange. After the advice to use CTRL-M I restarted the computer with the USB2-rescue stick (which was working yesterday up to the point of a frozen cursor in the centerof the screen), but today the screen remained black with the lines:

loading please wait...
no raid disks

I shut down the computer and restarted it with a rescue-CD. It came up with the screen, all the options are visible but the cursor is frozen, the keyboard and the touchpad don't work. CTRL-M does not help either.

I donot storetothe cloud but to the HDD which is built in addition to the SSD. I choose the option of a full back up.

I have bought a license for one PC which (should not) have to be renewed after a year.

Unfortunately Ihave to leave now for about an hour or so, But upon my return, I will check some details (like the built, etc.) and I will add these date to the discussion, hope it will help.

Ileach, I think that you intended to reply to your own post not this one - please edit the above post if you have time and copy it to post https://forum.acronis.com/forum/128365 instead.
