[Solved] Missing last backup info

Thread needs solution

Hello,

in ATI 2017 (build 5555), for some backups, If I select a backup on left side, I cannot see info about "last backup". :(

And in that case, button "Recover files" is missing too.

See pic.

Martin, please try doing a Validate for this backup task if it offers you that option.

Otherwise, the missing information (Last Backup / Recover files) would suggest that Acronis thinks that this backup task has never been executed.

Steve,

Validate is usually available in menu on the backup name, right?
For backup which has "Last backup" visible, I can see Validate there, but for this backup I can see only "Rename, Clone setting, Delete". And I'm sure, backup has been done. MAnually when defined, and also automatic scheduled.

How can I do Validate if this is not in menu?

How to tell to ATI that backup is somewhere?

Thanks

Also, I think that green spot between "Files and folders" and "Extrenal drive" means backup has been done. Or not?

Martin, if you do not see the Validate option then Acronis doesn't know that this backup has been performed.

In this case, if you have the backup image files, you can try reselecting the Destination for the task for the location where these files are stored then see if you then have the Validation option.

If this is still not shown, remove the task then use the option to Add existing backup using the option at the bottom of the panel - see screen shot attached.  Navigate to where your backup files are stored and select the latest one.

Steve,

it fixed 1 task, but another task which was ok before this, is w/o Last backup info and Recover files is missing now.

And Last backup date-time for task 1 is wrong.

Can this be caused by upg ATI 2013 -> ATI 2017 ? Something in ATI DB?

Martin

Martin, the recommendation in the ATIH 2017 FAQ document (see links on left side of forum) is to remove older versions such as 2013 before upgrading to 2017.

please follow the steps below to make a clean install.

  1. Uninstall your current Acronis software normally via the Control Panel.
  2. Download the Acronis Cleanup Tool - link in my signature below - run this as Administrator.
  3. Restart the computer to complete the cleanup action.
  4. Install ATIH 2017 as Administrator.  Download a new copy of the installer if needed from your Acronis account.

Ok, I will try it.

But if they know it, why installer doesn't tell to uninstall it first. Hm :(

EDIT:
In the FAQ is nothing reg. what to do w/ all backups.
Will I have to add them manually? ( Add existing backup ? ) or all "tasks" will be there? (I guess no task will be there)
Will be all old backups available in ATI 2017 after upgrade?

I will re-install after I know these things.

Martin

Good question, I don't have an answer for the app not uninstalling the old version first.. The app changed quite a between 2014 and 2015, that's the reason for recommending to start clean  though. Makes sense that it should clean automatically if need be. But I suppose it's because the clean does make you start from scratch that they don't arbitrarily do this.

Starting clean will elrequire new  backup jobs. Keep the old backups for posterity if you want. They're still very usable and you can restore them with recovery media. I'd just start clean to avoid any potential issues and not import them, even though you can.

Acronis will probably find and import them automatically. However, I don't like the behavior how it does this and you can't prevent it. It uses the name of the tib file, not the backup name that used to be in the console. Because of this, I went back and "forgot" the many backups it imported and started with new ones to keep it clean. I didn't delete them though, just removed the task from the console.

The database is strictly for the Windows app. You can move backups all day long and still use them with recovery media, just so long as the backup is good and all parts of it are in one folder. I'd recommend using one main backup folder and a new folder for each backup job you create to keep things seperate and organized too.

Martin, you can save a copy of your old backup tasks if you wish to do so before doing a clean install.

Navigate in Explorer to C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts and save the contents of this folder.

Each task is held in a .TIS file which you can open in Notepad and read the XML data content - the task name is near the top of the file.

You will still lose all task backup history doing a clean install but this will be rebuilt in the Database as your tasks are executed.

Martin, glad to hear your success results, thanks for the feedback.
