Backup going nuts?
Acronis works so well for a while, then all of a sudden, without any change from me, inevitably stops functioning properly. I wish it weren't so bothersome.
I have attached my scheme; Is there something wrong with this? It worked fine for one full and some number of subsequent incremental backups, then created a new full one and one incremental. I thought all was fine. But yesterday, I found my backup drive completely full. Acroniis had created 5 more full backups and was trying to create more!
Tongiht, I deleted all the new full ones, down to the last incremental, but then found Acronis would not run another incremental. I finally deleted the remaining BUs, deleted the System C backup for N, and recreated one. It will not run, saying it can't find the full file it is looking for. Of course not; I tried to start from scratch.
Pelase tell me what I have done wrong this time.

Thank you. I was able to solve the problem by creating a new plan with the cloned settings and new name, deleting the backup routine and files, rebooting, creating a new backup and validating the plan. All seems to be well again. Prior to the problem however, I had not manually delted any BU files, so I don't know what triggered the problem. Again, thanks for your assistance.

Steve, good morning, if so it be when you see this. Here we go again. I just logged on to my computer to find it busy, even though backups are set to run in the wee hours of the morning (it's 8:55 as I write). I attach a screen shot of my Cdrive backups. I have done nothing to alter the backup routine I set after following your previous advice. Can you tell why this could be happening?

Philip, you are obviously in a different time zone to me as your post shows with 13:00 time stamp to me (I am in the UK) so in my afternoon time.
The screen shot does show that there is a problem going on here but not what is causing the problem, for which the logs are needed. I would recommend downloading the MVP Log Viewer (link below in my signature) and use this to see what messages are given for the backup task creating the files shown in your image.
What I am seeing is that your backup task is repeating itself several times, which results in duplicate backup files where the file name(s) ends with the suffix -1 or -2 or -3 - this is caused because a file already existing with the same name in the backup folder.

Steve, my thanks again. I experienced some other difficulties around the same time, which may or may not have been related to the backup one. I did download yourlog viewer, but, while seeing some red errors at various times, would have to have you look at them, and it appeared to me that the save function only saved the selected log item, not the whole thing; I wasn't sure what to do.
I share the following with you in case it may be of any interest; I'll be concise.
Meanwhile, I discovered that my C-drive was also, rather suddenly filling up (a second 1/3 of my normally 1/3-filled 500GB drive). Though I first guessed that perhaps an errant tib file might be the culprit, it turned out to be 157GB of restore points -- never had that happen before. I learned how to delete them, and that problem is taken care of.
However, before that, Windows (7) had started booting with selected services only, after I had unchecked two Acronis-names functions in msconfig/startup, to stop it from creating full backups continuously. I'm reasonably sure that I did not make the selected-services choice. In any case, it was corrected by a trip to a local BestBuy service desk. When I returned home and started up again, Acronis started a new C backup. I let it run. When it completed, it deleted my previous backups (2 full plus incrementals), leaving the new on in there place. This surprised me, because my setting it to leave no more than 2 previous backup chains; I thought it would leave them, or at least the more recent.
Two days later, it seems to be behaving, not having created any more. I'll have to see what happens next time it runs. I may need you assistance again.
