error when trying to make image of main partition

Thread needs solution

I have build 6613.  I have a new computer build and have installed a samsung 950 pro m.2 nvme drive on the gigabyte motherboard.  Everything is configured and working.  The 950 has 2 partitions.  The system reserved partition and the main c partition.  I imaged the system reserved partition ok.  Trying to image the main c partition to an external usb drive.  I get an acronis "error writing to drive" message about  100 gb into the image.  Tried creating a new backup with same results.  Are there any issues imaging this nvme drive with this version of acronis?

Thanks,

John

John, the key problem that you will have in using ATIH 2015 with your new Samsung 950 NVMe M.2 drive is that should you need to recover this drive the Acronis Rescue Media will not recognise or find it as it has no device drivers to know what it is.  These types of drives are only supported in the latest builds for ATIH 2016 and in the ATIH 2017 product, where even then you may need to create the Windows PE version of the Rescue Media, and possibly inject additional device drivers if your M.2 drive is being used in RAID mode for the SATA controller.

Returning to the original issue of 'error writing to drive' - the clue here is in the first word, writing, so the problem is with your external USB drive rather than the M.2 drive which would be being read from.  I would recommend running CHKDSK /R against the USB external drive to check for any drive, sector or filesystem errors on that drive.

You can also use the MVP Log Viewer program (link below) to check what actual messages are being written to the backup task log files that may give more specific details of what the error was here.

Checke the external drive as suggested.  No errors were found by windows scan.  Here is excerpt from the log file.  Can you interpret?

John, unfortunately these error codes can only be interpreted by the Acronis Developers, there are no sources of information on their meaning made available to us users.

Do you have another external drive you could try saving a backup to?  If you do have a second drive, then use the 'Clone settings' option for the backup task and then reselect the target drive to pick that second drive rather than trying to use the same backup task with a different drive which can cause problems.

Hello John,

In your place I would check Windows Event viewer for possible errors about accessing the external disk. Also you can run additional diagnostic tests as I described here: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/129276#comment-408401.

The message that goes after Error_Code= is just a Base64-encoded text. When decoded, extra errors about writing to disk are revealed, but none of them point directly to the root cause of the problem.

Slava
