What build of B&R 10 are you using?

What OS and service pack level are you using?

My shared network folders show up with build 11,105 installed on Vista.

I am using VISTA SP2 and currently two WIndows Seven RTM workstations. On none of them I can see the network folders. Strange thing is that I was able to see them after the frst installation some days ago. There am am 100% sure since I did a backup on my central NAS.

Since this was working I tried to switch to central managed acronis server. This was partially working under vista (no de-duplication) and NOT working under seven (not able to add ws to management server). As a workaround I wanted to go back to locally managed systems but as you can see there are no network folder anymore :(

Here again my config:

1 Workstation runniing windows vista SP2
2 Workstations running windows 7 RTM
+ several laptops planned as soon as I get the backup working as needed
Central management server running windows 2008 R2 + SQL Server Entprise 2008
Central storage node running windows 2008 R2 + RAID 5 array with network shares (including the central depots)

Build of acronis was downloaded yesterday again to be sure to have the latest one 10.0.11105. I used this to reinstall using only default settings (except the licence server) but no luck - still no network folder displayed.

I know resinstalled under windows vista AND seven. Both using the standard user options (currently logged in user). The current user has admin rights.

But still no network folders displayed - this was verified on three machines.

For targets I am now using the central depot feature which I am now able to use (another issue reported), but I can still not select any network folders as source which is very important for my daily backups.

Endurance

no ideas yet? I found an almost suitable KB entry: http://kb.acronis.com/content/1523

but checking my setting the condition of the entry seems not matching. Here my settings note: Sicherungsoperatoren includes a domainwide usergroup of acronis users which I planned to use for running the acronis machine service. I also tried to use a different account with full admin right but it also did not help here the setting using olaf.krause as account for Acronis Machine Backup service.

Don't know if I already mentioned that if I directly enter a network folder I am asked for a user name + pwd and after this I still get no network folders. If I enter a wrong user the box pops up again - if I use a correct user/pwd it dissappear. Therefor I assume that the auth is working but the folder list simply not displayed.

Now I tried also Acronis virtual server Edition on a Windows 2008 R2 - also there no network folders. Maybe there is a simple user error on my side and I am blind not seeing a checkbox to enable something or so...

Using a mapped network drive seems to work only under vista or older. If you create a network drive on windows seven this is no longer offered as local drive in Acronis. So also this workaround cannot be used :(

Is there nobody from Acronis support outside?

You have a windows server 2008 are you working in a domain environment or no?

I have noticed something strange on Windows 7, it's not directly related to Acronis but it might be a hint. When I was setting a privilege for some user to have be able to lock pages in memory via local group policy manager then I was not able to do that (an application that is using this privilege is reporting that is unable to do so). Strange thing is that doing it exactly the same way on vista works. I did not bother with it because I was able to set the privilege via domain group policy and it works.

Try installing with UAC disabled.

Try also adding the user to Backup Operator Group (but this gives access to shares that he would not have otherwise).

I am using a domain env.  (domain controllers are Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise)

The users I used for testing had already admin rights on the workstations (and added to the backup operators group) but they were domain users. The only option related to users I did not try yet is a local user -> I will also try a local admin account asap. Maybe I will setup also a XP maschine only to be able to do a comparison on the bahaviour.

cheers

I now did a test also on windows XP with a local user (admin) and I have network share access. I will use this machine now as central acronis backup agent for network shares.

I will retest a local admin on other plattforms too.

Problem ist def. not related to local user - also the domain account is working on XP.

I have complete deinstalled acronis on windows 7 now it works there also. This software seems to live - evertime you think you should know the result you get something different or new errors, strange behaviours.

=> Acronis has released alpha/beta software which was not tested under all needed conditions.

That sounds a lot like a Vista network configuration issue. You may not have the right settings selected in Vista (note: Windows 7 is based on a similar set of options).

It should look similar to the attached file. Perhaps check that you have correctly set the items selected in red (see below). This configuration works for me at least.

Jarrad.

Vista network and sharing center configuration

Is the group policy is domain or local?

Are acronis services started with user with access to the share and log on as service privilege?, check if acronis agent is running as this user.

Add __acro_subst_user__ the Log on as service privilege as I don't see it in the group policy.
