ACI 2015 only recognizes USB backup drive after a device is plugged into the system.
I recently replaced my backup drive with a Western Digital 4TB drive. The Partition Style-GPT, Format-NTFS. Operating system Windows 10. My previous backup drive was a WD 2TB drive. When I start my system recognizes the new WD drive. I can perform any action on the drive, cut, copy, play videos etc. But ACI 2015 will not recognize, nor start a backup to the drive unless I plug in another USB storage device, either 2.0 or 3.0. I can also unplug and then plug in the WD drive again. I have tried changing the drive letter, deleting the backup scheme and initiating a new one, and changing the drive to every USB 3.0 on the computer.
Does anyone have a solution for this? Thanks.

Thanks, I tried it but it didn't work. Not sure what it is, but it is rare. I searched this and other forums for quite a while before posting. I would try a deep uninstall with Revco Pro or some other program, but am afraid my key would not work again, and I don't want to buy the program again until next year or so.
If you have any other suggestions, I would be happy to try them.
Thanks Again, Bill

Bill, if you have registered your ATIH 2015 license key to your Acronis account, then you should be able to check that it is shown there and if so, then there should be no issue with uninstalling / reinstalling and activating it again. The license is activated against the hardware signature of the system where it is installed so that will not be changing by doing this.
The only other check is that you have the final build version #6613 of the 2015 product installed.

Thanks, I will do that. I am sure I have registered, but will double check and then try a deep uninstall and try reinstalling the program. It will be reinstalled on the same hardware, so it should not be an issue.
I will let you know how it goes.
Thanks for your help.

Bill, once you uninstall ATIH 2015 normally, you can use the Acronis Cleanup Tool to remove any other traces of the program without the need to use such as Revo Uninstaller. Link in my signature below.

It will probably be a few days until I do it, but then I will use the tool. I will let you know how everything comes out.
Thanks,

As for the usb drive not being detected... did you plug it in before opening Acronis? I know I have to do that when I want to build rescue media as it doesn't detect the new hardware once the media builder has already been opened up (doesn't refresh automatically).
Sounds like the USB drive is detected in Windows, but just to be sure, make sure that it does show up in computer management >>> disk managment with an assigned drive letter. Windows is supposed to do this automatically, but may not assign a drive letter.
If letters are not assigning to external drives automatically, you can do the following to fix this so it doesn't keep happening:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/wi…
open command prompt (right click and "run as administrator")
type diskpart (and press enter)
type automount enable (and press enter)

Thanks. Yes, the drive is plugged in before I start ATI. Yes, it shows in disk management, with a drive letter. Yes, it is always the same drive letter. Everything works well on the drive. Copy, paste, play video, audio etc. Large file, small file, it is all the same. ATI will simply not recognize, nor backup to the drive until I either upplug the drive, then plug it is again, or plug in any USB 2.0 or 3.0 device. As soon as the other device is recognized, the backup starts. It seems and is strange. I have never had another time when a particular program did not recognize a drive, but everything else did. Thanks for the reply. Bill
