Recovery fails: Segmentation Fault

Thread needs solution

When I boot from a recovery USB key with an external USB disk attached containing a backup, the software is not responsive.

When I boot from a recovery USB key without an extra disk attached the software responds but crashes with a message: "Segmentation fault..."

Is this software buggy or is there a way to solve this?

Paul, welcome to these user forums.

Please see forum post: 122489: Bootable media - seg fault when clicking restore disks where this issue has been reported previously and where a statement was given (see post #5) that this is resolved in ATIH 2017, so the next question is what version are you running here?

One workaround is to create the alternative Windows PE version of the Rescue Media which uses the Windows 10 ADK - the Bootable Rescue Media Builder tool will direct you to the download site for the ADK if you do not have this installed.  When installing the ADK you only need to select the top 3 options from the installer menu.

Hello Steve,

Thanks for your quick response. When I want to create the alternative Windows PE version of the rescue media, is this een option to be found in True Image 2017? Where can I find this?

Paul, yes, this is an option found in ATIH 2017 - you can get to the Bootable Rescue Media Builder via the Start menu > All programs > Acronis > True Image > Tools & Utilities route, or within the main application GUI, click on the Tools menu (4 small squares) then on the Rescue Media Builder option.

You will see a second option for WINPE-BASED MEDIA WITH ACRONIS PLUG-IN which is the one you need to use.
