ATI2017NG Cloud Backup - Error 0x170810

Thread needs solution

I do not use my Dell notebook often. Usually when I am on holiday or otherwise traveling. It has two backup tasks, one to my Synology NAS and one to Acronis Cloud. The backup to the NAS works perfectly, but recently when trying to backup to the cloud I get the error messages. Used the logview and several errors were revealed.

I exported the log file and it is attached.

As suggested I did a disk check but that did not resolve the problem. Looks like the directory 1-1:/EFI/dell/logs is missing or could not be repaired.

Any suggestions greatly appreciaed.

Ian

Ian, are the two backup tasks using the same source data selection here?  If so, then it seems very strange that the backup to your NAS runs fine but the one to the Cloud gives this error?

I suspect from the directory path notation, that this is on the hidden EFI partition so not sure that CHKDSK would help unless you assign a drive letter to the hidden partition.

Hi Steve, both are full disk backups (to the best of my recollection). If I get a chance I will assign a driuve letter to the EFI partition and run the check again.

Thanks for your help.

Ian

Update: The Cloud backup was 'whole PC' but the NAS one was Disk (all partitions selected). Does the latter exclude the EFI partition?

Update2: Created a new Cloud Backup using Disk rather than whole PC. Got the same error message. Will test new backup to NAS and see what happens.

Ian

I am sure there is a thread in which the process of running dskchk on EFI partition was discusesed, but I cannot find it at the moment - anyone remember which one it is?

Ian

Ian, a disk & partitions backup should include the EFI partition by default so the difference between this and an Entire PC backup should not be in play here.

See MS webpage: You Cannot Access an EFI System Partition with the Mountvol Utility in a WinPE Environment for some information on giving a drive letter to the EFI partition.  This is using WinPE so you could try this when booted from the MVP Tool WinPE Rescue Media then try doing the CHKDSK in that offline environment in the knowledge that there should be nothing accessing the partition when you check it.

Hi Steve

Used the latest versioin of MVP Tool WinPE Rescue Media and it assigned drive letter to the EFI partition, ran chkdsk, and it appears that the problem is solved, as it is now backing up to the Cloud.

It will be a long backup as somehow in the interim the Creator Edition of Win 10 was installed.

Thanks for the suggestion, greatly appreciated.

Ian

PS My biggest problem was working out how to shut down the MPV recovery media. In retrospect it was obvious. I was very impressed with the Tool - this is the first time I have used it 'in anger' since the early development days.

Ian, great to hear that you were able to resolve this one via the MVP Tool media.  It is very good and my default to use these days, especially with the ability to capture screen shots etc from the booted media.
