Acronis 2017 Update 4 too slow !
Since I have updated to Update 4 my backups need about 5 to 10 times more than before!
The software tells me that it would need 1 day and 9 hours for the backup which lasted before about 1-2 hours.
So I can't use Acronis.

Hi Steve,
thank you for your fast response.
To your questions:
First I had started to make the prosecution of a former backup. I started this one before the night and I stopped it the next morning, because it wasn't finished that tima.
After that I started a completely new backup, but it had the same result.
In the last years that always worked well.
But today, and only after this Update 4, the speed of the backup shut down.
I will try to get some information with the MVP Log Viewer.
Stefan

Stefan, thanks for the log file information, this doesn't show any errors being encountered, and the time for this backup was only 1 hour 20 minutes before it was cancelled, which may be reasonable depending on the actual amount of data that is included in this full backup image file.
Did you check any of the older backup log files such as the one that was still running the next morning after being left over night?

How can I check the older backup files ? They are on a NAS-Server.
- Log in to post comments

I cannot check the backup from this morning, because I have it already deleted.
I'll just start a new one just now, because night starts here!

Stefan, I have updated my earlier comment as I was looking at the wrong log file for some reason.
The MVP Log Viewer top window panel should show a list of recent backup logs for your tasks which should stay there unless you specifically delete these.

Here (attachment) I got the logfile of my overnight backup from yesterday to this morning.
My actual backup has now reached about 1.3 GB; but this backup does still calculate the resting time of the backup.
Also the actual amount of the running backup differs between Acronis (now 2,68 GB) and the actual amount in Explorer (now 1,53 GB).
Tomorrow I will report some more.
Just now I go to bed, it's midnight in Germany.

I just looked for my jesterday started backup.
It shows now, that it would need still 1 day and 9 hours time (see attached image).

Update at 15:30: Resting time 1 day 8 hours.
In Explorer I just can find 3 versions of backup-file (see attached file), but the backup comes to no end!
It's now working since more than 15 (!) hours and it completed less than 1/3 of the whole data.

Stefan, thank you for the further log file and screen images. I still do not see any obvious indication of any problem being reported in the log file, but the screen image of the files with the v1, v2 & v3 names and date/time stamps would suggest that something is amiss - I would normally expect to see a single .tib file but the extra v2 & v3 files suggest that the connection to the NAS may have been interrupted?
What option do you have set on the Advanced page of your backup task in the Performance settings for the 'Snapshot for backup' - is this set to the default of VSS?
From the very long time being taken for this backup, this could be an issue with either networking (to the NAS) or with the VSS snapshot.
If you haven't already cancelled the long running task, then it may be worth doing so and changing the Snapshot for backup setting to use 'Acronis snapshot' then trying it one more time. See KB 59440: Acronis True Image 2017: 'Snapshot for backup' option overview for more information on the Snapshot setting choices.
The only other advice would be to raise a Support Case for this issue directly with Acronis Support, as it looks to have been introduced by Update 4 if all was working normally before that upgrade and is something that the Acronis developers should look into.
Hope your weather in Germany is being kind to you, it has become rather wet and dismal on the other side of the English Channel here in the UK.

Steve, I just stopped the backup (there was still 1d 7h resting time) and made a new logfile (see attachement).
Also I made a hardcopy for the performance-settings (in german Leistung=performance); see attachement: options.png.
I think, that's a problem of the Acronis Update #4.
Just now I started a new backup with Acronis snapshot instead of VSS.
Weather here in Germany is similar to your side of channel. It's cloudy, rainy and cold.

Stefan, hope the changed snapshot option will make a difference.
The new log file only shows a problem from around the time that you probably took action to cancel the task at 15:07, where it shows messages saying:
Error 0x40003: Failed to write the file.
Error 0xfff0: The specified network name is no longer available
Error 0x40003: Retry attempt for action Error: Error writing file.
then repeats of the same messages.

Hi Steve,
I just stopped the backup again. Th "changed snapshot" didn't bcause any difference.
I am quite sure, that's a Update #4 problem.

Stefan, I can only advise to raise this as a Support Case and get Acronis to investigate this for you. The only other thought is to ask if you have an external backup drive that you could test with as an alternative to backing up to your NAS - to see if that gives the same behaviour or not?

Steve, ok, I will try your proposal.
I just put an external harddisk via USB on my Notebook and will start a new backup.

Hi Steve,
it looks that you got it !
This backup already managed 16 GB within 6 minutes.
It shows a resting time of 1 hour and 4 minutes.
One question: It seems to be a problem of my NAS-Server. Do you know a special tool to investigate this NAS-Server ?

Backup successfull !
Steve, you made a good job!
Thank you!

Stefan, good to hear that the backup to your local USB drive was successful and quick!
For the NAS, see KB 58000: Acronis True Image 2016: Troubleshooting Issues with NAS Devices which has a number of areas you can look at.
