Backing up Windows Live Mail 2012

Thread needs solution

Hello friends,

I am backing up the following folder to Acronis' cloud:

C:\Users\Bob\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail

In the event of losing everything on my local PC, will this be enough to restore my email once the OS and Live Mail are reinstalled?

Thanks for your help,

Bob White

Bob, welcome to these user forums.

I don't use WLM but from a quick search on Google, your path to the Windows Live Mail folder looks to be good and this should also have a Contacts sub-folder too.

The other check that you should make is how your email account(s) are configured?

If you are using the older POP3 type email account, then there are further settings that control when your email is deleted from your host Servers, i.e. delete after 7 days, delete immediately, delete when the deleted items folder is emptied etc.  Depending on these settings, you may still have lots of emails still held on the server to help if you need to recover it.

If you are using the newer IMAP type email account, then any changes made locally are normally reflected back to the server, so if you keep or delete mails locally, the server is updated accordingly.  You can always check how the server copy of your email looks by signing in to your webmail service that most ISP's provide, i.e. access email via your web browser.
