Snap deploy3 create / deploy images

Thread needs solution

Hello,
I have a problem with Snap deploy 3 and vista machines.
WHen i try to create an image of a remote pc snap deploy cannot find the disk where the image has to be placed.
Here's the scenario.
I open management console on my local pc.
I connect to the pc where i want to take the image from.
I select Create Master Image.
I select "on a remote machine"
I select all the disk for the image.
When i now want to select My pc, where the usb disk is connected to, it will not find it nor other machine for that matter.
I create a case already for a simular problem but got no respons.
can anybody help me with this problem.
I already tried to turn off the Windos firewall but that did not work.
I can login with remote desktop to the remote pc and i also can connect with my local pc to the remote pc with acronis management console.

Hello,

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

Most probable cause of this situation is that this network drive is not shared for access or the product cannot access it due to lack of privileges.

As far as I understand, you're trying to create Master Image by connecting to Acronis Management Agent, is that correct?

The simplest solution in this case would be create Master Image Creator component on CD, the boot your target machine from this CD and attach external hard drive directly. Then you will be able to save the backup without any difficulties. Master Image can be created under Tools -> Create Bootable Media in Snap Deploy Management Console.

If you'd like to resolve the initial issue, please try disabling SSL encryption:

  • Click Start -> Run and type in regedit to open Windows Registry Editor;
  • Browse to:

    Windows 32 bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\Encryption\Server
    Windows 64 bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Acronis\Encryption\Server

  • Rename the Server subkey to Server1.

After that, please make sure that you have created shared folder on that drive: run Windows Explorer, right click on the destination folder -> Sharing; then choose Share this folder; then follow to Security and set Full Control for everyone.

After that, please make sure that the folder is accessible from other computers and you're able to copy files to\from it. Then please reproduce the issue.

Please let me know the results. Also, do not hesitate to ask any questions concerning Acronis.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Hello, thx for youre suggestions i will try them as soon as possible.
I know the simplest solution is drive over to the other location and install the image overthere but that is not what i want to do because its not in the neighbourhood. Today i was over there and installed an local pc with snap deploy management, pxe server, license server enz and was then able to roll out an image that i saved on an external HD. I will dubble check the privileges of both computers.
unfortunately i will only be there once a month so please be patient for the next results.

I'm having the same problem. My privileges are full access to everyone and I tried the regedit that was recommended. I still can't save an image over the network to my deployment server. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hello,

it afdeling, please keep us updated!

Eric, could you please be more specific? What exactly happens when you're trying to save an image to the network share? How exactly are you trying to create an image?

Could you please let me know the build number of the product, which you can find in the Help -> About dialog (it should be a 3 or 4 digit number)? Could you please provide me with the exact sequence of actions that lead to the issue you report, so that I can try to reproduce it?

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Acronis Snap Deploy 3.0.3392, Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition Service Pack 2

The shared folder is accessible and writable by the computer if it boots to Windows; just not when Acronis is trying to save to it. I boot the master computer with the PXE agent and start the Acronis Master Image Creator. I then go through the steps of the image creator and select the shared folder on the server to save the image. Since it is on a server, the path is \\DEPLOY\Images. Thent I click the New Image button to use the MyBackup.tib file name. Once I click Next, I get an error- The file name, location, or format "\\DEPLOY\Images\MyBackup.tib" is not valid. Please type the file name or location in the correct format. Should the file be saved on the root of the server instead of a separate folder?

Hello,

I am not that familiar with microsoft's registry bit when i go to the path you descibed "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\Encryption\Server" which subkey do you mean?
I see two values, one is standard (no value's) and UseCertificate (file///:c:\program files\common files\Acronis\Agent\certificate.pem blabla.

Your network must be a workgroup to save an image to a shared drive on the deployment server. Acronis Snap Deploy 3.0 does not support Active Directory credentials.

Hello,

The network is a workgroup and no active directory is used.
The eventlog only shows. Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing 4634. When i try to connect with Acronis Sanp Deploy management console as administrator and i fill in the password it immediately returns to the same logon screen. the remote desktop utility in vista works fine.
It must be something with a service or port that is rejecting arconis login. But i can't find out what it is.

"Your network must be a workgroup to save an image to a shared drive on the deployment server. Acronis Snap Deploy 3.0 does not support Active Directory credentials."

Maybe I'm confused, but my network employs Active Directory and Snap Deploy has worked (in terms of credentials and folder access, anyway). During the master image creation, it prompts me to enter credentials for the share or server, at which point I can enter a valid AD account. All of our images are written to a server share secured by AD.

Hello all,

Let me address some queries here.

I am not that familiar with microsoft's registry bit when i go to the path you descibed "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\Encryption\Server" which subkey do you mean?

it afdeling, you should rename Server subkey, which is not a key itself, but the container for the keys.

Also note that this address is different for 32 and 64 bit systems:

Windows 32 bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\Encryption\Server
Windows 64 bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Acronis\Encryption\Server

Please note that you need to either reboot the machine where the components have been updated or simply restart Windows service of the Acronis Agent.

To restart the service:

  • Hit Start -> Run and type services.msc
  • Restart the Acronis Remote Agent service.

Generally, you should be able to save the image to the folder with such address. But it looks like we're facing name resolving issue in this case, related to Linux environment (since you've mentioned that Windows PC's can access the same address successfully). Please try to use a full UNC path (e.g. \\server\share\) instead of a mapped drive when the selection screen appears (in the string named Folder please specify path as suggested).

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

A UNC path and the server IP address is the answer. You can easily save the image onto a server if you use it. Just be sure the Everyone group has full control.

Hello,

Yes, I agree with Eric. UNC path allows to access network resources successfully in most cases.

Please let me know if you have any questions concerning the products.

Best regards,

Hello all, I'm having some of the same issues regarding privileges. I have Windows Server 2008 R2 and have changed the registry folder from: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Acronis\Encryption\Server TO: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Acronis\Encryption\Server1

I assume that is the subkey you are refering to disable the SSL encryption.

Now I am able to connect to my shared folder using both IP and UNC with no issues. However when I attempt to save the image to that shared folder I get the error message saying:

"You do not have enough privileges to create the file... Please choose another location."

I have set the shared folder with permissions for everyone with full control. Yet I still get this privilege problem regardless.

Is there another account I should give permissions to in Windows Server 2008?

Thanks.
