TI Home 2009: Scheduled backups stopped working

Thread needs solution

Windows XP Pro SP3

TI Home 2009, Build 9796

I created a scheduled backup task about 2 weeks ago to do partition backups of my 2 hard drives to an external USB-connected drive and all worked fine 'til a couple of days ago when they would no longer start, producing the following error in the log:

"Scheduler is unable to run the task"} with GUID A62E6DFB-4EE6-4155-B5A8-A7A5D9EB4F96} because of the error 1327 (Logon failure: user account restriction. Possible reasons are blank passwords not allowed, logon hour restrictions, or a policy restriction has been enforced." [copy/paste of the XML, so excuse the strange formatting].

At the same time, two apparently identical "Security" event log entries are made:

Logon Failure:
Reason:        Unknown user name or bad password
     User Name:    Bert
     Domain:        ASUS-II
     Logon Type:    4
     Logon Process:    Advapi
     Authentication Package:    Negotiate
     Workstation Name:    ASUS-II

There are two user IDs installed on the system, mine and my wife's, and neither has a password.

I've made no intentional changes to the system or to the scheduled backup entry, although Windows Updates, anti-virus updates (Avira AntiVir Premium) and Windows Defender updates have almost certainly been done in the period.

If I select the scheduled entry, I can run it manually. I also created a new scheduled entry, set to run in a few minutes, and it started and ran successfully.

I deleted the backup entry that was failing and created a new one, which is identical to the old one, scheduled to run at 7:30PM tonight. If it too fails to start tonight, I'll be back to whine some more.

Until then, any suggested explanation of what's going on here?

The backup with the newly created schedule entry ran normally.

But I'm still wondering why the old one simply stopped working.

mmm Bert it does sound odd. I have only had problems like that after using a registry cleaner - could that be it? Or it might just be a windows thing and I know of no way to know apart from looking in event logs which are usually useless anyway.
