Can TI 11 backup to a network drive?

Thread needs solution

That is, can TI Home 11 backup to a shared disk on a network computer and not just to an NDAS? If so, how do I access that drive (or a shared directory on that drive) using the bootable rescue CD?

I guess this is in the wrong forum. I'll move over to the True Image forum.

Hello Peter,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/ | Acronis True Image]]
Acronis True Image 11 Rescue Media allows to place the archives  to network share. You should find the remote computer under My network places or you can specify the full UNC path at the File name box at the bottom of the program window.
Since you are asking this question, I assume that your attempt to backup to a shared folder has failed.
There can be several reasoms of the encountered issue:

- A DHCP Server may not be running in the network.

- Network setting may not be set correctly in your copy of the standalone version of Acronis True Image.

- The problem can relate to the network card of the machine or to the card driver shipped with Acronis True Image.

Please make sure you are using the latest build of the product. See Downloading the Latest Build of Acronis Software.

If at least one computer is visible in Computers near me on the Image Archive Selection screen, then try specifying the full UNC path to the desired computer in the "File name" edit box, e.g. \\server\share.

If no computers are visible on the network, but the Computers near me icon is found under My Computer, then please ensure that a DHCP server is running on your network. If you do not use a DHCP server, then please enable network connection, specify network settings manually in the window, available at Tools ->Options -> Network adapters.

If the Computers near me icon is not available under My Computer, then there could be problems either with your network card or with the card driver shipped with Acronis True Image. In this case you should try an ISOLINUX CD.

ISOLINUX Bootable Media is usually more up to date than the Acronis Loader one. This is due to the fact a new version of Acronis Bootable Media is uploaded to the website more frequently than regular product updates are released.
Please let me know via PMs if you need this ISO file. Anyway, please let us know the current state of the issue.

Thank you.

Hi Oleg and Yana:

I haven't checked on this forum in awhile, but I just got the email that I can download the new TIH11 for free ! :) Nice. The question is will it help me ? Last year at this time, we ran into a roadblock - we could not backup computers to a Linux-based NAS, in my case a Synology box. The computers are on a domain - the NAS isn't. I could see the share but no matter what settings I used for authorization, it simply wouldn't work. This began with TIH10. It worked fine with the 2009 version. When last I checked, there was going to be an update to correct this, um ... soon. So far, we resorted to external USB drives to backup ! Sigh.

My Synology NAS drive is getting really lonely. Is this the version that will finally work ? The User manual says something that "file level operations" will not work with Linux file systems (Ext2/3, Reiser, etc). Yet, I read that backup and recovery is still possible. Which is it ?

Regards,

Jamie
