Acronis Backup and Restore Locks Windows Explorer

Thread needs solution

Hello all:

I have isolated this issue to Acronis Backup and Restore via trial and error and can conclude that when this product is installed (not even in use) a right click on any file will cause Explorer to crash. I'm running XP with 1 gig of Ram. Is there a setting I'm missing, or do I have a bigger issue.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Hello Jay,

Thank you for your interest in [[http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/ | Acronis Corporate Products]]

We are unable to find the exact reason of the issue without additional information. Could you please collect the below information and let me know about it via Private Messages?

1) Please do the following in order to enable Kernel memory dumps:

- Right click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties";

- Go to "Advanced" tab;

- Go to "Startup" and "Recover Settings";

- Choose "Kernel memory dump" in "Write debugging information" box;

- Close all the dialog windows by clicking OK buttons.

Now, please reproduce the crash of Explorer and obtain the dump files created.

2) - Open Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Information;

- Choose the "Save" option in the "File" menu (or "Action" menu under Windows 2000), enter the "File name" and set the field "Save as type" to "System Information File (*.NFO)";

This will allow us to investigate the problem thoroughly. We are looking forward for hearing back from you.

Thank you.

Hi,
I have Seagate Black Armor Backup which Seagate tells me is your software. It seems to backup fine, but whenever I try to look at any files in any of the .tib files, explorer crashes.

This happens on both my laptop, running WinXP Media Center Edition, SP2 and my desktop, running WinXP Home Edition, SP3. The desktop is a completely fresh install of Windows.

It happens even when I run in Safe Mode.

Could someone please help? Seagate has told me they have done everything they could, and they are out of options.

Thanks,
Jim

Hello James,

Thank you very much for your post. I will do my best to assist you.

Unfortunately we do not support Seagate Black Armor Backup software and we recommend to contact their technical support instead. Since you have done that already, I can recommend to install a trial version of Acronis True Image 2011 Home and check if the issue persists so that we can continue from there.

If you have additional questions, please let me know

Thank you.
