TI 2014: Support for Drobo DAS (e.g. 5C)?

Thread needs solution

I bought a "Drobo 5C" (intelligent RAID system with USB3 connector (DAS, Direct Attached Storage)) with the idea to put my backups on it. I can save backups there without problem, but when I boot the WinPE medium with Acronis 2014, the application (Acronis) hangs until I disconnect the Drobo. If I connect the Drobo later, Acronis hangs again.

Is this problem fixed in the meantime?

(Drobo 5C works without problem in my Linux system. The box provides two SCSI disks with two partitions each. The 2nd primary partition is 64TiB in size (thin provisioned) with NTFS filesystem. Maybe the size of the partition is the problem.)

Ulrich, there are several possible issues that you may be hitting with your Drobo DAS when using with the ATIH 2014 WinPE media.

This may not have device drivers for your USB 3 connection to the DAS.

It may not also have any RAID support if device drivers are needed for this aspect of the DAS, though hopefully the DAS will present as a single large drive?

If the partition size (64TB) was an issue, then I would expect you to be shown either an error message about this or be shown a much smaller drive / partition of the maximum size supported.

Before using the Drobo 5C I had an external USB3 Harddisk, and I did several successful recoveries using that harddisk and the same WinPE boot CD. AFAIK the Drobo does not need special RAID drivers, because the RAID is completely transparent to the host. However it seems the Drobo does not support some SCSI generic commands that regular disks do support. I don't know whether that's a bug in Drobo's firmware.

Is there any chance to get logs from the acronis application?

Ulrich, as far as I remember, ATIH 2014 still has a Logs option in the main GUI to get access to these.

I am having the same issue with Acronis Backups 11.7

I can not plug in the 5c if the Acronis Manger Machine service is running.

Did you ever find a solution.

Running Windows 8.1 on my desktop but have tried it on other Windows Machines also.

Danny, welcome to these User Forums.

Sorry but I have no knowledge or experience of Acronis Backup 11.7 nor of Drobo devices, so you may need to wait for a reply on your forum post in the Acronis Backup 11.7 ForumAcronis 11.7 Managed Machine Service and Drobo 5c locks up PC

If you have support for your AB 11.7 product then raise this as a Support Case with Acronis.

This seems to be the fix

Navigate to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Acronis\Klib

and create DWORD: DisableATAIDForExternal = 1
