Not understanding my backup scheme

Thread needs solution

Hi,

Here are my backup settings :

Until now, after each new full version, all the other versions were deleted. Yesterday a full backup was made but the previous full version and a part of the intermediary incremental versions remained on my disk.

Did I miss something ?

Thanks in advance.

Patrick, welcome to these User Forums.

Your backup scheme settings and automatic cleanup rules look good to me, so should run correctly.

It is possible that something interrupted the cleanup process that caused the older version chain files to be left behind, but that is pure speculation without any more information to work with.

I would recommend downloading the MVP Log Viewer tool and using this to check the log for the last few backup actions for this task, to see if there are any indications of any errors shown there?

Thanks Steve,

The log file reports no error for the last operation. But it clearly indicates that from the 30 intermediary incremental versions, only the last 18 were deleted and it tells "Operation has succeeded". For the first incremental version that was not deleted, the following errors are reported :

2017-07-03 19:30:01:411 11364 E010103EA: Error 0x10103ea: Cannot create a database.
2017-07-03 19:30:01:448 11364 E010103EA: Error 0x10103ea: Cannot create a database.
2017-07-03 19:30:01:563 11364 E013C0005: Error 0x13c0005: Operation has completed with errors.

So I guess this has broken the chain and made the previous versions invisible in the database.

Thanks again for the pointer to the log tool.

Patrick, try doing a manual Validation for your backup task (click on the V icon next to the task name in the GUI).  This will attempt to verify the Acronis Database information and should create a further log file for the action.

Steve,

The validation succeeded and recognized the last full version created yesterday. I had already removed the versions that should no longer be there, though (I have a backup). So I guess I'm starting from scratch on a good basis...

Thanks.

Glad to hear that the validation was successful, hope all continues to work correctly for you.
