Backup finished but job not - heavy load on storage node after backup

Thread needs solution

Hi,

We have an issue with large backups in 12.5

Job is hanging in the state of pic 1

And there is heavy load on the storage node where we have stored the backup.

Looks like it is replicating the backup to istself - see pic 2

Hi,

According to screen shots the process is staying on deleting backups which involves manipulation with the deduplication datastore and re-indexing of it. If it stays on this stage for significant time, every time the backup completes, then this issue should be investigated with help from our support team. Remember to collect system information report from both Acronis Storage Node and one of the agents which perform the backup.

Thank you.

We don't use deduplication - what else could be the source of this load on the storage-node?

Hi,

If you're not using deduplication then it's not normal behavior and should be investigated separately by contacting our support team. There could be multiple reasons which can be revealed only after checking the diagnostic information (logs from Storage Node first of all).

Thank you.

Also (just as a thought) if you're not using deduplication or cataloging functionality, then it makes sense to save backups just to plain network share, instead of using Storage Node managed locations.

Hi,

I've also seen this kind of behavior with consolidating backups, not just with deduplication.

As far as I know, if you set the option for your backups to be consolidated and I think the backup format must be v12 as well, then Acronis will merge archives and recreate them as necessary.

I don't know the exact logic behind it, but I think the gist is that your incremental backups should end up in the same archive as the last full backup before that. So, if you delete a full backup in-between but you still have other full backups that your incremental backups can depend on, they will be consolidated into the same archive, which (as i understand it) basically means it'll extract everything and create a new archive with that.

In my case this seemed like normal behavior and I was able to follow the process as the new archive was being created. The whole process still took several hours though, but since it's reading and writing several hundred gigabytes from and to the same hard drive and extracting and creating archives at the same time, it is bound to be slow.

Thomas
