Updated: Support for backup to NAS added
The ATI App on my iPad just updated. Support is added for backup to NAS. Presumably there is a corresponding Android version. The rage of backup devices supported is patchy.
None of the beta testers for ATI 2018 were able to test it presumably due to not having a supported NAS.

Update: There is a new version of the iOS App - it appeared overnight Melbourne Australia time. Only change given was the backup to NAS which was supported in the prior version.

I have installed ATI on my Android Samsung S7 edge. It successfully backed up to my PC. I then set it to back up to my NAS (Qnap TS 453 mini) having installed the Qnap ATI app on the NAS. According to the mobile it has successfully backed up to the NAS but I cannot find any trace of the backup files on the NAS.
Does anyone know the location of mobile backup files on a NAS in case I'm looking in the wrong place? Otherwise the app isn't working correctly.

Hello Adrian,
The mobile backups are stored under /usr/local/Acronis/MobileBackupServer/acronis-local-data
You can also check whether the backup has been created successfully by attempting to restore. For details see Recovering mobile data.

Ekaterina,
Why do users not have a choice as to where they would like to store the backups? I would like to keep all device backups in a specific "BACKUP" folder of my choosing. Is this something that is going to change eventually? If it's not scheduled, could you suggest that it could be, because I'm sure there are going to be a lot more questions about this subject in the very near future as people start using the mobile backup to NAS. People like to have control of their data and most people are not going to know how to SSH into their Synology or QNAP NAS to locate the backup(s). I would say this is a very important feature request.
Thank you,
Clayton

Hi Clayton
I'm in the same question and new to synology,so where those files are stored on NAS and how to access them?
I don't know anything about SSH !

Ok
I've tested to access my nas hidden folders using Winscp to find the folder where the backup is stored...but no way to save it on my local disk.
Please think about letting choose the user to change the nas folder where to save the backup, because in this way if I want to make a backup of the file on another disk,I can't!!

On QNAP devices a folder is created /share called "Acronis".
To access it w/o SSH i just created a SMB share and manually choose /share/Acronis.

I'm trialing Acronis to see if it can serve my needs to back up my family's laptops, iPads and phones. I like the look and feel but like the other posters in this thread I'm surprised and disappointed that I can't control the location of the mobile backups on my NAS. It is not workable to have them hidden away in the NAS's system files for three reasons: a/ users - even admins - should have no business messing around in a NAS's system files whether to locate backups or otherwise, b/ automated NAS-level backups or just plain storage management (such as which drive or volume to use) becomes impossible and c/ mounting backup files to restore select files from a backup set becomes too cumbersome.
Are there plans to fix this?

Hello Rolf,
Welcome to Acronis forums and thank you for providing feedback on the functionality in the mobile app! As far as I know, there are currently no plans to add location management. Basically you cannot perform any actions with the mobile backups outside the Acronis True Image application - mobile backups cannot be mounted like usual .tib archives created by a desktop version due to a different archive format. We'd grateful if you could share some more details on when hidden backup location could become an issue.
Thank you for your input!

Specifically, I have iDrive installed and running on my QNAP NAS. Every night it backs-up remotely any changes made to specific folders on my NAS. Unfortunately, I can not point iDrive to a /usr directory tree to have the Acronis mobile data backed-up. This is a problem.

Hello Everyone,
I've added all comments from this discussion to the related feature request (ID fore reference TI-131020). Thank you!

Using ATI 1.0.1 on a QNAP NAS.
Client are AM running on both Androids and iPhones (family devices).
After a while, AM on my Samsung Galaxy S7Edge began to throw error message (see below).
Not much to go by. It completes apporximately 30% The total number of files (items) are 2146 and it stops on item 1483. It used to run ok and it still does on an iPhone. Waiting a retrying makes no difference. I have recently updated Android to no avail.
Any ideas ?

A NAS must be backed up on a regular basis. Because it's for storage of valuable data. However, if you don't know where your data/backup files are located (directory, volume, drive) or if they are hidden you simply cannot create a normal backup job.
IMHO this is a very important problem rendering Acronis' mobile-to-NAS-backup solution useless for serious users.

Hello,
I am using Acronis Tru Image on my Qnap to backup all family iphones content.
I have my entire qnap QTS operating system installed on a separate volume on two M.2 SSDs (Raid1), whereas all files are stored on a separate data-volume which includes all my 6x16TB hdds.
I saw now that qnap stores all backup data on the volume of the operating system, eating up the limited SSD space instead of storing it on the data-volume. At least I see that data usage trend on my SSD System drive going up when performing a backup.
Please indicate how that data folder can be changed, or implement this option. Your software is really excellent, but without the option to choose a destination folder it becomes useless for me.
best regards
Rainer

Hello,
I also use the backup function for my Iphone data to the QNAP NAS.
I cannot find the backup on my Qnap in the data area.
I also need the possibility to change the backup folder to the data area of the QNAP NAS, because to backup this backup data, too.
Best Regards
Georg

This issue still exists as of today (even the software was updated last in July 2019). Unfortunately, Acronis has no real appetite to support data location management on third party systems like QNAP due to a conflict with their business model. I want to say that it is great software but without this key feature is useless as any other poorly designed software or software which almost acts like a demo so you could start using their cloud solution to store your backups. This is their business model, so why to support something where money don't exist?
There are at least two or three solutions without begging Acronis for a simple feature addition:
1. Increase your operating system or application volume from your storage pool as backups are stored on the same volume as your Acronis True Image Software. The ATI cannot be migrated, and as much as its backups are hidden, those can still be managed somehow. I must admit it is not the best option; hence, why so many users ask to have the ability to change the backup location accordingly to their preference rather than being enforced by some hardcoded functionality bad practice. There is no backup software which would not allow changing the backup locations. It would be practical three years ago, but not today, where we have multiple devices and at least 64-256GB each. I have 256GB assigned for my applications on my QNAP and don't see even 40% space taken. However, my iPhone is 256GB, where 200GB needs to be backed up - no way I could achieve it with ATI.
2. Stop using the software altogether. They will not add what you want due to a different business model which doesn't work for them financially, or they don't realise where the problem is (look at Ekaterina's quote above). The main issue is not with a hidden backup - it is with its location or lack of controlling its location.
3. Acronis to develop this functionality and ask QNAP users to pay a premium (e.g. license or annual fee). Is that even a feasible option? Would it be worth considering?
In summary, it has not changed in the last three years; it will not change soon.

Is anyone from Acronis able to provide more information, advise or at least relate to what is described above? Ekaterina Surkova ?

Hello Everyone,
discussed the topic with the product management and regret to confirm that adding support for the new NAS models as well as adding more control options over the backup location on NAS is not planned for the future releases of the mobile app.
