How can I tell if validation is successful
Just validated my backup files.
How can I tell if the validation was successful?
There is a green tick between where it says entire PC and external hard drive which when clicked says the backup is valid. However it says that now after ive just done another backup,so not sure if that relates to the backup being successful or the validation process.

How do I find this?
Doesnt the green tick on the main screen mean its worked ok?

David, if you click on the green tick then you should see more information as to its meaning, i.e. from a manual validation on my computer.
If you download the Log Viewer from KB 59335: Acronis True Image: Community Tools and look at the associated log for the validation task, I see the following:

Ok - just did a manual validation and it came up with a green tick, same as on your screen,so I guess that means it worked ok.
Does the validation check every backup on the hard drive- it said it checked about 80 GB and ive got 230 GB saved - or does it just do the last chain?

David, validation just checks the current backup version chain as far as I am aware, so if you have more than one task, you would need to run validation for each separate task.
If you want to check older backup version chains, then you can do this from Windows Explorer by right-clicking on the file and taking the Validation option from the ATI option shown.

Ok. Ive deleted older backup chains with windows explorer, and the autoclean deleted the last chain which had some incrementals missing due to being deleted with windows explorer.
I need to be sure that the backups deleted with windows explorer won't cause issues if I have to restore, which you said can be sorted by doing the validation. Is it enough to have just validated the last backup chain? How can I validate backups ive already deleted? It didnt come up with ignore when I did the last validation- just completed normally.

David, if validation is not reporting any issues then there should be no need to be concerned further about your deleted backups.
The Acronis Database is only in play when doing activities within Windows for Backup or Recovery, and the recommendation for any recovery, especially when it involves the OS drive, is to only do this when booted from the Acronis Rescue Media, so that the database information is not relevant at all in that rescue media environment.
You can always do a dry run with the Acronis Rescue media and point it at your backup chains to see what you are shown for possible recovery points (dates / times for each file in the chains). This can be done without actually doing the recovery.
