Active Protection and Manual

Thread needs solution

Whilst I am not a business I have sensitive information on my PC, would you recommend running Active Protection or is MalwareBytes and Norton Security sufficient? Is there a manual I could download so I do not have to rely on the online one?

Peter, there is no separate manual per say about Active Protection, only the normal ATI 2018 User Guide which you can download via the Start > Programs > Acronis menu entry as shown in the screen shot below.

The decision about which security tool to use has to be your own to make based on how valuable the data on your computer is among other considerations.  Both Malwarebytes and Norton have good reputations and in this respect AAP is a new kid on the block, but with the value of Acronis having bought in expertise from Kaspersky IIRC.  There can be potentially room for using both AAP and other security protection methods / applications given that these work in different ways and should be capable of playing nicely with each other.

Other users will very likely give you their opinions in this topic and base this on their own personal experience in using any of these products.

I run both AAP and Kaspersky Internet Security.  Judging from things I had to "whitelist" in AAP, AAP will find thing not seen as threats by a security package: Windows Explorer deleting .tib files, RMPrepUSB writing MBR on USB storage, etc.  In my opinion it is appropriate for security packages not to flag those, but is appropriate for AAP to at least raise a flag.

On the other hand, I can envision situations when I might need to do a series of activities actions that would bother AAP.  AAP would need to be temporarily turned off or I would be bombarded with AAP nags.  I think these situations would be rare and for short duration.

Acronis Active Protection is a targeted app for the sole detection of ransomware pattern behavior.  It is not intended to replace a security suite like Norton or Malwarebytes.  AAP will require some training for your system and its installed apps just as third party security suites and apps may need to be training about AAP as well (telling these apps to trust each other).  If using trusts does not resolve issues then the developers need to investigate for resolution.
