Cloned SSD cannot boot

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I want to upgrade the disk in my laptop from HDD to SSD. So I take the original HDD out, then put it into an external drive closure, and put a new SSD as the internal drive. Then I boot the laptop from True Image Boot Media(DVD), and then perform a clone from the HDD to the SSD.

The clone is successful. So I unplug the external HDD and set SSD as the boot device. However, after restart my computer, it cannot boot any more. The BIOS just shows an error message "No valid operating system".

Why?

Thanks

The process that you are following should be correct in principle and I would expect the cloned SSD drive to work correctly.

Can you put back the original source HDD in the laptop and does this still boot correctly into Windows?

Please see KB 56634: Acronis True Image: how to clone a disk which has a step by step guide to cloning, plus also includes a video tutorial for the same.

One important factor is to ensure that your ATI Rescue DVD is booted in the same boot mode as used by your Windows OS - see webpage: Check if your PC uses UEFI or BIOS
