Acronis leaves .tib files behind

Thread needs solution

Hi,

first i noticed on my NAS that there are a lot of lonesome TIB files which are not shown in acronis.

There where only a few visible in Acronis which where from 2014.

The files on my NAS dated back 3 years, from various dates.

Now i did press refresh in the Acronis depot and suddenly all these files that wherent shown showed up in acronis,

it even created a lot of new XML files.

i did start acronis a dozen times the last weeks but they never showed up, only after the refresh.

How can i get rid of these files. can I just delete all of them.

Only the Daten_Backup contains my current full and incrementall backups.

Hi,

What happened after refresh is that the .tib files were re-scanned and for the archives which were missing description files (.xmls) these descriptors were generated and the files are now shown as separate archives. You can try to physically move most of the files along with their corresponding .xml files to other folders and then refresh the location once again. What you should keep in mind is to move the entire chains: all [backup_file_name_which_includes_date][Number].tib files + .xml files (1+1 matching) so that chains are not broken. If you can give a list of these files attached (how they are shown in Windows explorer), I can provide some more guidance.

Thank you.

Hello,

it looks more or less the same in the explorer.

I will start moving those files away, and delete them after the refresh.

Hi,

You can move entire archives chains to another location, for example moving this set of files to another location would move the archive to another location:

Daten_Backup_2017_08_19_00_02_37_517D3.tib

Daten_Backup_2017_08_19_00_02_37_517D4.tib

Daten_Backup_2017_08_19_00_02_37_517D5.tib

Daten_Backup_2017_08_19_00_02_37_517D.xml

Also it depends on what result you want to achieve. Moving the files would effectively just make the list look smaller, but the archives structure will remain as it is right now.

Thank you.

I just wanna get rid of all unnecesary files. since those are only fragments of old backups.

Plan is to move them and then delete them.

they take about 1TB of space.

Hi,

In this case you can move the oldest (check the timestamp in the name of the file) backups chains, leaving only the most recent one (which has corresponding .xml file for it) in place. Remember to keep the chains which are currently used by the existing backup plans (check the name of the file generated after backup to match it with the backup chain - this one should remain in place).

Thank you.

Hi,

Validation is optional, but recommended - to make sure that moved/remaining archives are still valid (e.g. that movement was made correctly).

Thank you.

ic, thnx.

now that the TIb are out of the way, there are e lot of .tmp and .chk files.

And the folder catalog has a couple of folders too, with one folder containign 2GB of files

Can i just move them too?

The .chk and .tmp files should not be moved along with the catalog folder or it will likely affect the existing (which should remain) archives. It's not recommended to move these files.
