can i place a system image iso file on the same usb drive as the rescue media builder is located?

Thread needs solution

I would like to create a system image iso file and place it on the same usb drive that I create the resuce media builder with.  I am using Acronis True Image 2016 and the usb drive is a 128 gb size.

I have a separate  external drive that I keep all my backed up data on.

Thanks for your help.

The USB stick capacity is too large for Acronis to boot from: see knowledge base explanation.

It is my understanding that the recovery media and the *.tib files must be on separate USB devices.

OK, Thanks Ian for responding.

"It is my understanding that the recovery media and the *.tib files must be on separate USB devices."

How do I format the separate usb device to place the system image backup (of *.tib files) on?

Is there a Knowledge base article about it?  Should the device be formatted in NTFS or FAT32 (what the USB device comes formatted in)?

What should the "Allocation Unit size" be set at? 8192 bytes or 4096 kilobytes, 32,768 kilobytes or default allocation sizes?

Do you recommend "Optimize for performance"?

Thanks for your help.

Wirth, it is only the Acronis bootable Rescue Media that has any significant restrictions, i.e. needs to be between 1GB and 32GB maximum size, needs to be formatted as FAT32.

For your backup storage drive, this can be of any size suitable to hold the backup images that you will create, so can be as large as needed, and can be formatted using all normal options as either NTFS or using GPT (again using NTFS) provided your computer BIOS & Windows OS supports UEFI to allow for GPT.

The key restriction for the backup drive is it should not be formatted as exFAT or in a Linux filesystem such as EXT3,4 etc.

See the ATIH 2017 User GuideSupported storage media page which has full details of where backups can be stored.
