HELP - Can't Restore From ATI Backup
I have ATI 2013, and am trying out ATI 2018. Trying to restore a user after a Windows reset, but having trouble. As you can see _b77_s1_v1 is the only backup that appears. Since the data I need is not in this backup, I tried to restore from _b76_*, and tried to add that to the list, but no success.
This is what I get:
I used the Lockhunter app to see if the file was in use, but it came back negative in all cases. Not sure what the last sentence of the message means; there are many "v" files from _b77. Should I move the TIB file(s) to another location on the NAS? My HD on the laptop doesn't have enough room for a 200+ GB file.
What can be done to restore anything from the "76" version? I was going to update to ATI 2018, but what's the point if all of these backups get corrupted? I'm backing up to a Synology NAS on my wireless network (in the same room). I tried to restore with ATI 2013 first, but got the same results.
ADDITIONAL INFO
I’m trying to get application setting files from the backups, which were done on this same computer. I had major problems as a result of a recent Windows 10 update, and had to do a reset which, removed all the apps, but was supposed to leave all the data...not exactly what happened.
I’ve reinstalled the major apps like Firefox and MS Office 2013, but need to get config info and history, bookmarks, passwords, etc.. When I tried to restore from the +”b77” files the needed files were not in the backup, so I tried to get it from the earlier b76 set, but when I tried it, I got the error message.
I tried to use Explorer to find the TIB files, and double click them. As I went through the directory structure, a double-click took me down one level, and popped up the contents of that level and the following (see pic below), asking to "locate the last volume of the backup". I got down to the correct user profile (Henry) and tried to drag and drop folder to my Desktop, the pointer had the little + sign. This box kept popping up REPEATEDLY, but nothing new was appearing on the Desktop-when I did the same thing with the b77 backup, that this did NOT happen.
Finally, the backups were created with ATI 2014 (I forgot that I upgraded from 2013). After the Windows reset I had to reinstall the ATI, and only found the 2013 license key. I found the 2014 key in my account on the Acronis site.

Henry, What I would recommend is to copy the b77 files to a usb drive. Then see if Windows explorer will open the tib files by double clicking. If this doesn't work, then you could boot from rescue media and see if you can perform the restore. Please note that when you use rescue media, the drive letters are not the same as when you boot into widows.

In your screenshot you have selected the full_b76_s1_v1 backup of and incremental scheme. The last volume would be the last inc_b76_sX_v1.
Is this a full disk backup or just a backup of your User Profile? If this is a full disk backup you can open the backup file in Windows Explorer, navigate to the User account and copy/paste that into your reset Windows however this will only bring over the data that exists, account functionality will be lost but maybe that's OK?

Henry, as advised in the other forum topic on this issue, what you need to do here is as follows:
- Add existing backup (in ATI 2018) and select the latest .TIB file from your Synology NAS
- Click on the new Task created for this existing backup, and then click on the Recovery button shown at the top of the page.
- Expand the Backup version drop-down menu shown on the right side near the top. This will show you the date/time for each of the backup files in your version chains just added for this existing backup.
- Select the backup version corresponding to the Date/Time of the .TIB image you want to recover data from.
Note: as shown below the date/time stamps can be slightly different, i.e. my backups are typically started before midnight but the date/time stamp of the .TIB is shown as after midnight as this is when the file was closed by the completion of the task. The GUI shows the time the task was started!

Thanks to everyone who replied with ideas. I'll try to address all of your inputs in one reply:
FtrPilot, the file is over 200G, so copying it is not an option - I don't have that much space on my laptop and my USB memory is only 32G
Alternatively, I connected the laptop to the Synology NAS directly via network cable. Unfortunately, that didn't help.
I tried to open the TIB files in Explorer, and got the never ending "locate the last volume of the backup".
When I tried to right click the TIB file in Explorer,Acronis True Image | Validate, I got the "corrupt/locked file" message.
I created the rescue media in ATI, on a 32G USB memory stick, but am still trying to change the boot sequence in BIOS - I haven't done it on this laptop before.
Enchantech, about the last volume, I tried selecting the latest incremental file for the 76 session - that didn't help.
It's a full backup of the laptop HD. I tried your suggestion about opening in Explorer, and work, but only with the more recent 77 session, which unfortunately doesn't include the files I need to get.
Steve, not sure what you mean in your steps 1 and 2, but I never get to the point where I would see the drop down menu to select a date.
What baffles me is that none of the TIB files before the 77 session can be opened. Doesn't ATI do any error detection while the file is written???
Is there any way to recover at least some of the files in the TIB?
BTW, I've used ATI 2018 for all of these recovery attempts.
I was hoping Acronis Tech Support monitored the forums and might respond. Now I need to restore from a Win 10 problem, and ATI software let me down...looks like I've been wasting time all these years.

Henry,
Another suggestion you can try, navigate to the latest 76 inc. tib file using Windows Explorer. Right click on the tib file and look for Acronis True Image in the pop up menu, hover your mouse over the Acronis True Image entry to expand it then click on Mount. This should open a window which will allow you to use True Image to assign drive letters to the partitions found in the backup. By default all partitions found will be check marked. You can uncheck any not needed.
Once your selections are made click on Proceed at the bottom of the window. You should see a message that True Image is assigning letters to the partitions. Be patient as this can take some time to complete. Once it completes, assuming it does, you will see a message to that effect. Once that message appears scroll the left column window in Explorer downward, you should see the newly assigned drive letters of the selected partitions there. You should be able to click on them and display their contents in the right side window of Explorer.
You should be able to at this point select folders/files and copy/paste them to other locations.
Once you have completed what you need to do look for a drive letter named Recovery. You can right click on that entry and select Acronis True Image as above and expand it. You will see the option to Unmount the image, select it to close that partition you opened in this manner. You will need to to this for any remaining partitions which where opened using this procedure.

Henry, referring to my previous post and steps 1 & 2. In essence, if the screen image you posted in your initial post for this topic is still correct, then you have already performed step 1 as shown below by the task you added.
Step 2 was for you to select your new Henry_full_b77_s1_v1 task as shown above, then open the Recovery window for this task, which should then give you the drop down list of Backup versions where these correspond to the dates/times of your various image files per your screen shot from Explorer.

Please excuse, but I'm new here . . .
Since the upgrade for Acronis 2018, I have been trying to restore some files after a Windows 10 reset. Mostly user files, but critical nonetheless.
I kept getting a server outage warning when trying the restore until this morning. Does this happen frequently and what's the best tact to take?
Also, is there a way to get some kind of progress on the download of recovery? I mean 20%, 50%, etc. All I can read are the size in in MB, which is fine, but I don't know how big these files are.
I figure you all know this software better than I do, and I am new to this Cloud stuff. From the outset in '95, I've been a hardware guy. I was anyone have any insight or places to get it, in regard to Acronis.
Thanks!

William, quick question here, do you have any alternative backups other than the one in the Acronis Cloud?
Server outages can be for a variety of reasons, so this may not always be at the Cloud end of the network but could be at other points along the path, through your network provider etc.
If you are seeing Cloud server problems, then I would recommend looking at KB 47145: Acronis Cloud Connection Verification Tool and using the verification tool that is appropriate for the server you are restoring from - you can find the name of this on the Advanced Options page of your backup task (at the bottom of the page). You should be using the nearest geographic server to your home location where the computer is located, but this cannot be changed after a backup is created.
If you still see problems, then please open a Support Case with Acronis so that they check the servers from their side of the network.

I have found file recovery form the cloud to be unreliable - rather than create the zip file then allow you to download, the zip file is created as the file is downloaded. This seems to result in the connection being terminated because it appears nothing is downloading.
I suggest you create a support case - not that it is likely to be of much help in solving the immediate problem. Only solution I have found is to do small downloads.
