2017-8058 problems creating WIN-PE media
been using ati many years, no real issues in v2016&2017-8058 using the winpe media builder to create either usb, iso or usb rescue media. suddenly on my asus z170 win 10, x64 uefi gpt system, attempting to build a winpe usb flash, after clicking on mediabuilder, after tools, immediately popped up win box saying media builder.exe stopped working. rebooted, no help, did a repair install, no help, tried using ctrl panel to uninstall....told me no contents related to ati were found! rebooted, ran Ati cleaner, rebooted, new install of ati2017-8058. now usb builder was ok. tried to builder cd based winpe, proceeded to the point of getting ready to burn cd, popped up error repeatedly saying cd burner was busy!
finally built winpe iso that burned successfully....i’m confused!! just before all this had updated to Win 10 fall creator edition v...1709. Rolled this back to w10-1703 but odd behavior remains...ideas ??

Steve,
As always thx for the reply. A few things- I have (I think) resolved some issues: I feel fairly certain that the troubles began with the update to 1709...as I had seen with virtually all PCs the normal windows background update was hugely slow and virtually always failed with known errors. By downloading the standalone 1709 updater from MS it seemed to complete (still took a LONG time) without errors.
As I said, in my case I was running 1703 with 2017-8058 installed & working fine. I would note that the 2017 initial install (upgrade over 2016) did show issues 10 days ago that required removing 2017, cleaning & then a clean install. After the 1709 update I wanted to create a fresh PE flash drv & that's when the MEDIABUILDER.EXE "stopped working" error started...well I already gave details & after a few bouts got that working finally. Then the failure (long Acronis error message related to the CD burner being busy) to be able to create a Rescue CD with MEDAIBUILDER, but able to do so by making an ISO and then burning the ISO.
This morning I powered off the PC totally (removed AC power)...after this COLD ReBOOT MediaBuilder WAS able to produce the Rescue CD! Ok, so what was different from yesterday? Yesterday I was rebooting (aka RESTARTING)...my guess is that either the Win1709 update or ATI 2017 was left with some HW/SW state that the Acronis Media Builder did not reset, but the Windows 10 Media Burner did handle.
I think this may have also been a cause of the initial Media Builder/ USB Flash Rescue failures? Not sure really. I also thought it was really odd that after trying 2 repair installs of 2017-8058 (which didn't help) that every subsequent attempt to Uninstall of 2017 either via Control Panel or the Installer itself produce an error message saying the uninstall routines could not find any content to uninstall (I checked and it appeared that all the ATI programs/folders were in place...even windows Control panel thought it was installed...perhaps some index entry was damaged?
Finally, I have assumed that my prexisting Windows 10 ADK installation (maybe 8 months old) does not need to be updated? Another day...another mystery I guess...
If the problems come back I'll try the MVP script..I thought the MVP kit just "hooked into" the MediaBuilder, but I guess I was wrong...so your idea is a a really good one. THX

Hi Steve,
Just a quick followup - first, apologize, I see after reading the MVP latest Ver advanced it actually does mention using a different mediabuilder PLUS actually addresses the issue seemingly auto updating the Win10 ADK to automatically keep us upd to date -GREAT FEATURE.
After d/ling all from the Google drive, one thing I did not see was much of anything related to WHERE to extract the ZIP on the (assuming to the bopot drive or where ATI is installed)?? plus does it even matter to where and it appears it may not even require to be installed? Or does it link into the Std menus...? Before i screwup my sys drive might as well ask. Kinda think, just extract to any folder off the C:\root and run it...or am I being silly....

All you need to do is extract the contents of the zip file to the root directory of your C: drive. Extraction creates a folder called C:\MVP_ATIPEBuilder_v121 on your drive. I have put a shortcut to MVP_ATIPEbuilder.exe on the desktop for convenience when running the builder.
