Error “Read error or meta data content is corrupted.”
Problem ======= My Acronis Backup (to the cloud) doesn’t work. Analysis ======== The backups fail with the message:- “Read error or meta data content is corrupted.” I have Acronis True Image 2018 with the latest build (9660). I am running Windows 10 with the latest Updates. I have been using Acronis Backup (to the cloud) for about the last few years. It used to run each night without any trouble. This started a few weeks ago. Now, I cannot access the backups I reported all this to Acronis support. All they could suggest was:- ‘… the backup job is corrupted and you need to re-create a new cloud backup job and check if that works fine. If the new backup job works fine, delete the old backup job.’ Now, I do not have ANY backups of my files because I cannot access them. The backup of my ‘Picture Library’ will take 15 days The Acronis support team seem to be lazy individuals who don’t care. Points 1. I have made no changes to the backup routines. 2. Acronis just suddenly stopped working 3. All that Acronis support can do is say ‘… re-create a new backup …’ 4. At the moment I have NO backups. I am livid about this and Acronis have let me down badly. Solution ======== Can someone give me the details of a backup system that works. Mike

John, did you contact Acronis Support? As Ian said, this is a rare issue and it should be investigated.

I believe the behavior is caused by a BSOD while the backup is running. When you hibernate your laptop Acronis 2018 needs to do house keeping before it allows the laptop to hibernate. If you are working on anything that puts your laptop in an unstable state, or have other issues that cause a BSOD while Acronis 2018 is backing up I think you are at risk to get that error. I had 2 BSOD's in the time frame that my backups started failing.
I had to delete the backup to the cloud and restart the backup. It will take a couple days to complete, unfortunately it has to do a complete backup, and revisions in time are lost.
The sticky bit is the nature of my work sometimes causes BSOD's so I will have to do some scheduling for cloud backup, or backup to a drive and move the drive offsite.
As for technical support, I just want to see whats possible with minimum angst and how the product behaves before I'm all in. I have my code and repositories backed up by another product but it cannot do a full machine backup with it and they throttle their bandwidth for cloud backup.

Just to let you all know I have had this same issue when trying to back up my my slave drive, this has never worked since I purchased the product about a month ago.
I have had Acronis techs as well as there elevated support try and fix this. I received a letter a few days back saying that they can not fix at this point and to just wait of give me my money back.
Since you have issues even backing up to there cloud I really think the issue is with there product.
They have run everu conceivable test on both my HD as well as my pc and still can not fix!!!
I did have legit backups from my earlier version which they lost when screwing around with my PC, as well as creating divverent files in my OS something to do about metadata.
On top of that my desktop is now loaded with all the stuff that they were doing and I do not know what I can savley delete or what.
Really left me out on a limb here and I'm pretty upset, they were telling me that I was the only one with this issue.
So what is the fix! I need this software not excuses
