TI 2016 Recovery Wizard: Restore Image, windows 10: Cannot find version 1

Thread needs solution

I have used Acronis TI 2016 in the past to restore an image.  Today, I'm using the same process and I get the error "Cannot find version 1".  The tib file is the #1 file in the list (incremental of a full disk image).

Can someone point me to how to resolve this?

Thanks...

also, hitting "cancel" to go back does nothing for about 20 times.  Sometimes it finally allows you to go back to the main TI menu.  The error msg also says you can "ignore" this message but "ignore" isn't one of the options.

Byron, welcome to these User Forums.

This error message is normally given when doing restores / recovery using the Windows ATI GUI application, where this uses the internal Acronis Database information for deciding what files are part of the backup.

The first check point is to check that for an Incremental backup that you have all the files needed for the version chain and have no missing files.

A valid version chain starts with BackupName_Full_B1_S1_V1.tib and this is followed by BackupName_Inc_B1_S2_V1.tib, and further S3, S4, S5 etc files all part of the same B1 chain.  Incremental backups must have all the files to be valid, no gaps or missing files in the sequence of file names.

Assuming that you have a valid Incremental Backup chain to recover from, then the next check is to perform a Validation for the backup task that created the chain.  This will then walk the backup chains to check for all files and will try to reconcile any differences with the internal database information.  You would need to take the Ignore option for any missing files, i.e. if you have deleted older backup chains.

Finally, if you are attempting to recover a backup of your Windows OS, I strongly recommend that you should create and use the Acronis bootable Rescue Media to do this type of recovery.  The Rescue media does not use the internal database information and also does not require that the Windows Boot Configuration Data information be modified to boot into a temporary Linux OS environment from which to actually perform the recovery.

Hi Steve, first a quick "thanks" for your very well written response.  Here's where I'm at...

1) using the TI recovery USB stick (2016)

2) windows 10 64 pro

3) incremental "image" of disc going back to same hardware in same pc (e.g. same HDD).  I see the files in order, no gaps

4) It have been able to get a full restore to finish...then the PC won't boot. Win 10 repair won't work either.

5) It's been suggested (and I'm trying now) to use 2018 TI trail.  I'll let you know what happens.

Again, thanks for your help.

Byron, thanks for the further information.

Thanks Steve,

At another person's input, I downloaded the 2018 trail and made a restore stick with it.  I'm testing it now. So far, the errors with the 2016 USB recovery wizard don't seem to be happening.

I'll report back in an hour or so.

Again, many thanks for your kind help.
