“Unable to create volume snapshot”

Thread needs solution

Pretty unhappy with purchasing this, have  it work a couple of weeks and now I get this error. I have spent at least three hours trying to run down a solution to no avail. Pretty much just want a refund at this point. Can't even contact a real support person without paying. Pretty shabby support.

Thanks for the listen.

Hello Mike Lewis,

Normally the snapshot errors are not related to Acronis True Image, they are some errors in the Windows' Volume Shadow Copy mechanism.

You can try this free diagnostic tool: https://www.acronis.com/en-us/personal/vss-diagnostic-free-tool/?utm_re…

Also, we do provide free support within the support maintenance period. Was there any difficulty in contacting support with Acronis True Image 2018?

Mike, after running the VSS Doctor utility, also check the amount of free space on your partitions as this can also be a factor with this type of issue - the VSS Doctor report should flag this up.

You may also need to run a CHKDSK and possibly defragment, though the latter has become less necessary with the maintenance provided by Windows 10.

One final thought, VSS snapshots only apply to local volumes, so if you are backing up a NAS drive, this is an expected error message as Windows cannot create a snapshot for a 'foreign' file system.
