Acronis 11 Home: Why is my differential backup the same size as my firt backup?
I go to the HOME screen.
I click on Disk and partition backup.
I check the disk backup options: it says: backup scheme=version chain scheme. Suggests that Itill backup the entire disk and then only the changed files.
Then I click on backup now.
I wait for the backup to finish. Then I create ONE file on my desktop. Then I run the backup again.
It creates another backup file with the same name (Partition backup (System Reserved) (C), that is just as large as the first one. Yes it does contain the changed file , but, I thought it was supposed to ONLY backup the changed files? Very confusing.
Maybe my question is : how do I create the Full backup followed by ONLY changed files.?

As a matter of fact whether I use version chain or Incremental my .tib files are always either the same or larger size than my first .tib file.

More research yields an article from Acronis that says that if you run Disk Defragmentor on Win 7 like I have that the .tib will be large because the position of data changed on the disk. I have never run DD because I'm using an SSD drive.

As jumboloan has stated,
after the first full image, any movement of data on the disk is recorded as changes and is included in the incrmental or differential backups. Thus any auto defrag by Windows or other 3rd party defrag programs will need to be disabled except just prior to a full backup.
You might also look at your backup options and make sure you do not have "sector by sector" checked inside the backup options.
Certainly, the differential or incremental should only include changes to your disk since the last full backup. TI does not work at file level but at change of positions where data is stored.

I have no defrag running I know of and my last defrag was six months ago on the C: drive. Sector by Sector has never been checked.

I have the same problem with W-7 64 and Acronis 11:
First time a full backup = ok
2nd time (incr) = full backup again?
3rd time (incr) = seems to many new data
4th time (incr) = increased backup data again
4th time (incr) = impossible of new data (within 2 minutes taken and no action between)
Acronis 10 didn't have this problem.

Problem solved. Acronis 11 assumes differential updates vs incremental updates in Acronis 10.

I use Incremental and each file is huge even though minimal activity between incremental backups.

jumboloan,
Can you confirm which versin of TrueImage Home you are using.
First, I would double check that the automatic defrag by Win 7 is explicitly turned off. This may take action by us to be sure it is in fact turned off.
Second, I would create a new task with new settings and see if the issue continues.
Third, you might want to check if your have a firmware upgrade for your SSD drive just to make sure your drive is not an issue.
Fourth, you might want to clear out some of your old registry checkpoints. I do not have Win7 so cannot offers suggestions as to how.
