Backup not deleting snapshots on VMware virtual server

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have Acronis 12.5 backing up my ESXi host and two virtual servers.  On the Exchange server it is creating snapshots and not deleting them.  This is affecting the free space on my datastore.  I see this was a problem in vmProtect7 but I am now having the issue in 12.5.  Can someone help with this?

Some additional information.  I have found that the virtual server hard disks are still attached to the Acronis appliance.  Can I safely remove those hard disks and then run the consolidate disks in VMware?

So, followup for anyone that might have the same question.  Go to Edit Settings of your Acronis appliance and look for additional drives that don't belong.  Remove them (DON"T delete from inventory) and then run a snapshot wait 120 seconds and then delete all snapshots or click on Consolidate in vCenter for that virtual server.

Good luck.

Hi Deanna,

The fact that the backed up disks are left attached to backup appliance typically means that the backup process either crashed or didn't complete as it should - this problem should be investigated with our support team involved to figure out what exactly happens during backup (the backup logs will be required for investigation), e.g. find out the root cause.

To fix the consequences the virtual disks must be manually detached from appliance - using the method you decribed. We also have a KB: https://kb.acronis.com/content/32611 (pratically it's applicable to any Acronis Backup version) with the instructions for safe cleanup.

Thank you.
