? Meaning of Error Message

Thread needs solution

I performed a successful full back-up on 9-17-09 and ran an incremental back-up on 9-18-09 and received this error message:

Event # 30, Message: Operation has completed with errors., Module: 100, Error (Code) 5 (0x640005)  This message appears below the log.

These comments appear within the Event Log as the last two entries:

Error: 9/18/2009 3:31:51 AM  Operation with partition "12-0" was terminated. [Details:]MFT bitmap corrupted (0x70018)]  Tag = 0x89D94B01B483E192

Error: 9/18/09 3:31:51 AM  Operation has completed with errors.

I have Acronis True Image 2009 running in XP Pro SP3.

How will an error like this affect a restore of the Full Back-up with the Incremental Back-up in the event one needed to be done?

Since a Full Back-up was successful, should a person run a Full Back-up each time rather than running the Incremental Back-up in association with the Full Back-up?

Thank you, anyone, for your assistance.

Run chkdsk /r to try ans sort you disk out.

Validate your image archive (use the rescue CD if possible), if it validates then, your image should restore you  to the same working system you have now corruption included.

Thank you, Colin, for your reply.  I have run the chkdsk on Drive C, that is where my XP OS resides and tonight before I get ready to retire I will run the chkdsk on Drive D as that is where my Vista OS resides.  When I initially ran the Backup and one incremental is was done for both C and D drives, so I do need to get the chkdsk also run on Drive D.

On Drive C there were two data attributes inserted and Windows replaced bad cluster in on file.  The final result is that the drive was clean.

I will need to create a rescue CD.  If I cannot figure out how to validate the image archive, I will have to ask, if I cannot find the answer.

I just installed this program over the weekend so backing up is totally new to me as is the program.

Thank you again for your help thus far.

I have a question about the Rescue CD.  I created two to have a spare and also created a Rescue "CD" onto a Flash Drive.

There seems to be a problem with what was saved to the CD vs what appears on the Flash Drive.

The CD was automatically named Recovery Manager and it shows the following items:  bootmenu.bin, bootwiz.bin, fll.cfg, kernel, cat, mouse.com ramdisk.dat and splash.run.

The Flash Drive contains a folder named Recovery Manager containing the above items.  In addition to the file with the above items, the Flash also contains additional items named:  bootmenu.exe, bootmenu.xml, bootwiz.cfg, bootwiz.sys, c!.png, dat2.dat, dat3.dat, icon_continue_48.png, menulogo.png, mouse.com, SPL1.exe

Can anyone explain why the same files would not appear on the CD versus what appears on the Flash Drive?  I realize some of those are images and are not pertinent to the issue of trying to boot the computer in the event it were to be necessary.

I assume that the Flash Drive is the valid source to use between the two, if ever necessary???

Now I have to go see if I can find somewhere that will explain how to validate the image archive.

Thanks,

Cathy

I can't explain why the difference between the CD and the flash drive.  I use only the rescue CD to do backups and restores.  You should test the rescue CD by booting from it.  You will boot into a scaled-down version of ATI but you should make sure the CD works just in case you ever need it.

Also, to validate (you can do this from either the rescue CD or from ATI in the Windows environment):  Launch Acronis > Operations > Validate Backup Archive > Browse for Backup > (Click the archive you want to validate) > Next > Do Not Schedule > Next > Proceed.  ATI will do the validation.   BTW, Where are you storing your backups?

The same files are on the CD but they are hidden. They are the files needed to boot into the recovery environment. The visible files are the ones needed to install an Acronis Secure Zone with the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager to your hard disk.

Both the CD and the Flash Drive should function identically.

The Windows User Interface and the Recovery Environment interface both have a menu item for validating an image archive. Their location in the UI depends on the version of TI being used. On the left side of the forum interface is a link Home Products Guides that you can consult for the details.
