Backup now option

Thread needs solution

Hi I have been using Acronis Backup and Recovery 11 for some years and this has been useful for running various one-time image backups.

I have since upgraded to Acronis Backup 12.5. Does anyone know if there is an equivalent functionality where I can see the list of drives, partitions and volume labels when choosing the backup source?

Hi,

Yes, there is such functionality - when backing up a Windows or Linux machine you can choose "Disk/volumes" backup type in "What to backup" section of the backup plan sheet and in "Items to backup" select volumes directly. Note that this would apply only when you configure a backup plan for single machine while for multiple machines instead of direct volumes selection you'll need to use "Policy rules". The same approach would apply to backup of virtual machines, e.g. you cannot directly select volumes of VMs, while performing agentless backups via Agent for Hyper-V/VMware.

Thank you.

Hi when I look in the option for what to back up it gives a list such as C:\, D:\, All Volumes, etc but it does not show the volume labels. When I use Acronis to make backups I always decide on the source and destination based on the volume labels (and partition layout). Is there a way to show it like the old version?

Mike,

Can you please attach/link a screen shot of the contents you see? I'm asking since in my environment all the volumes lables are listed and layout is also pretty clear, so I'm not sure which information you might miss. See below sample screen shot:

Thank you.

Hi I have found by creating the plan via the Devices tab instead of the Plans tab this gives more options. I can now see all the details when choosing the backup source, however when choosing the destination it still does not show the volume labels.

This is now only a minor issue, though I have attached a screenshot

Mike,

Thank you for clarifications - the Plans tab is intended to have plans which are applied to multiple machines, so direct selection of volumes is not really applicable in there ("Policy rules" should be used for definition of source volumes to be backed up). What concerns the information about the free space in the backup location - it will be shown right after you define the backup location once after browsing (so that this location appears in Backups tab). After that when creating a new backup plan you'll be able to select this location in 1 click from the list without performing browsing first (since it will be a registered location), so the "Where to backup" choices would look as follows:

Thank you.

Hi I am not looking to store the list of where to back up, since each time I use Acronis it is only used for a one-time backup. Is there any way to reset the destination list each time the machine boots?

Hi Mike,

If you're performing backups manually each time and to different locations, then you can remove the locations after backup from Backups->Locations list. Deleting location from there does not delete the backups in it - it's pure unregistration sequence. There is though no way to automate this process currently (likely will become possible in future via REST API call).

Thank you.
