Acronis 2017 Try and Decide not continuing after reboot
I use 2017 Try & Decide and it works great for me. Today, I forgot it was running it and I rebooted. A normal dialogue came up asking if I wanted to "Continue" or "Discard". I hit "Continue" not realizing it was an Acronis Try & Decide prompt. It was after boot up that I realized Try & Decide was no longer running and everything was discarded.
Not a big problem, but why didn't it keep running the way it was supposed to?
I read a lot of posts about Try & Decide not being compatible with Dynamic Disks, but I have a UEFI/GPT Basic disc. So, I was just about to give up researching the issue (since I would rarely keep running Try & Decide after a reboot anyways) when I found the issue on my computer.
I run a program called Disk Password Protection with boot protection installed. I turned off the boot protection, and Try & Decide worked normally. That is, normal in the sense that I started Try & Decide while booted in Windows, Rebooted and Acronis offered to "Continue" or "Discard". I chose "Continue" and when I was back in Windows, Try & Decide was still running. As planned.
Just feedback for the unlikely event someone else has the same issue and happens to be using some sort of boot password protection.

Hi Steve, I went ahead and reported it as suggested. Thanks.

Steve and PL1 .... after the problems with T&D a couple of years ago, and alot of re-coding by the Acronis Engineers, it appeared to be working correctly. I use it alot, but "normally" I either Accept or Discard, before I reboot, depending on the situation. Today I was installing new drivers from HP and after the installation, it requested a reboot to finish the job. I accepted the reboot prompt and the reboot process was started. I "expected" a prompt after the reboot asking me to Discard or Continue. I got nothing. The boot process continued and it now appears that T&D assumed the driver installation was to be discarded. Huhhhh ???
I am going to run some T&D tests to confirm my suspicions ...

Running ATI 2017 build 8058 on an HP Envy x360 Convertible with 12 Gb Ram and an SSD and SATA HDs.
Was this corrected in ATI 2018 ???

Ok ... I rebooted the system, started T&D, created a folder on my desktop and into that folder I moved 5 desktop icons. Then I executed a normal menu reboot. After the reboot, T&D did NOT request either Discard or Continue. After the reboot, the folder that I had created was gone and the 5 icons were back in their respective (and prior) positions.
Hence, no dialog from T&D after the reboot and T&D assumed (or coding forced the issue) to discard the changes ...
As I remember when working with the T&D engineers a couple of years ago, that is not how it was designed.

Bob, I can only suggest opening a new Support Case or reopening your previous one for this issue.
I do not use T&D and rediscovered one of the reasons why not when I just went to turn it on from ATI 2018 on my laptop this afternoon and got an immediate BSOD from Windows 10. This is probably more to do with the laptop being triple boot with Grub used to choose between Ubuntu and the Windows Boot Loader! I had to restore my MBR & Track 0 from a recent backup to put Grub back after T&D walked all over it.
I will try to find a little time to setup T&D on another Windows 10 system with ATI 2018 where there is only the one OS involved, then try your simple icons move test.
I wonder if your HP drivers update included something that might have modified your MBR and simply removed T&D by removing the Acronis Loader it uses?

Bob, just saw your BTW and need to point out that Acronis do not support ATI running on any Windows Insiders build. See KB 60589: Acronis True Image: Windows Insider Program (beta) builds support
I am also running Windows 10 Insiders build 17101 as one of my 3 OS's on this laptop and ATI 2018 has been working fine for me with the features I am using (just not using T&D)...

Steve ... thank you for your update. I was not aware that ATI was not "officially" supported on Windows Insider builds. As I use T&D so much, I will have to either make the "continue or decline" decision manually before a reboot of the OS. Altho' I really LIKE T&D, I am becoming disenchanted with the issues that I had had with it over the years, and might start looking for a stand-alone program that concentrates only on the "Try and Decide" functions.
In the meantime, until our advanced versions of Windows become RTM, do you have any suggestions on that piece of software ??

Bob, the type of utilities that I use rather than using T&D are Sandboxie plus my normal 'go to' is the 'sandbox' Containment feature of Comodo Internet Security which allows me to run any program virtually or to run a virtual desktop, after which I can decide whether to run the same program live or not?
Neither of these utilities offer the same 'Continue or Discard' option for changes but do allow me to do a 'test run' of any that I am unsure about, plus don't require a reboot to roll back any changes made while in the sandbox mode.
