Alternating backup locations... this doesn't seem to work

Thread needs solution

I have two external hard drives. My plan was to backup to each of these by scheduling two backup jobs... run on alternating days... alternating between the two locations.

Acronis seems to get confused over the fact that I actually have TWO backups. This in spite of the fact that they are going to two completely different locations. Any ideas?

I have a setup something similar. Two different tasks. Each pointing to a different external drive and each enclosure has its own individual drive letter X & Y. This has worked without dificulty on both 2009, 2010 and now 2011.

Each backup runs as scheduled without difficulty Not that its relevant to the situation, but I also use MudCrab's DriveNotify (signature index item 8A & 8AA) as a reminder to tell when and which drive to attach.

Ok Grover. Thanks for letting me know it can be done. What I'm seeing is that every time I run one job, the other loses it's memory regarding where it's backup file is. This has happened three or four times already... still working on getting two jobs to actually work without them screwing each other up.

Are you using the same drive letter for both externals? If yes, then assign specific letters down near the end of the alphabet so the insertion of other usb devices does not interfere.

You can "statically map" drives to letters using Microsoft's built in "diskpart" utility, so that anytime you plug in you external drive, it shows up as the same letter. (Warning - diskpart will also let you do a lot of other dangerous things, so read MS usage info here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300415 )

John,
Is there a reason why you would not simply use Windows Disk Management tool to accomplish the same task. I have never had a problem of the letters becoming changed again once I assigned my desired letter(U-Z0) in WDM.
