Google Drive File Stream backup

Thread needs solution

Does anyone know if it is possible to back up the Google Drive File Stream drive with Acronis True Image 2017? If so, how please?

Rupert, welcome to these User Forums.

My understanding of Google Drive File Stream is very basic but from I have read this is a Cloud service that provides on-demand access to the files you store on the remote store.

As such, the answer is no, as ATI is first a product for home users, and secondly can only backup files which are accessible locally via either Windows drive letters, or from a network resource such as a NAS.

If all your Google Drive files are held in local folders on your computer, then you can backup these, as you could with DropBox or OneDrive etc.

If this is a requirement you wish to pursue, then I would recommend opening a PreSales Support Case with Acronis to enquire whether this is something that they may have planned for a future version of this or other of their backup products?

Many thanks for your response Steve. I have looked into this a little further and understand some more. I was setting Google Drive File Stream to store files offline, but couldn't see where they were. I now realise that they are in the local profile app folder in unidentifiable file types without an extension, in multiple folders (C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Local\Google\DriveFS\{long folder name with random letters & numbers}\content_cache). In fact they were being backed up by ATI, which is good, but I can't see that these files are usable without connection to Google Drive File Stream, so now I am switching to using Google Drive in conjunction with Google Drive File Stream so that, all being well with the syncing, I will be able to back up the files in their original form to ATI. It's still syncing on my slow internet connection, so I can't say yet whether this will work or not.

Rupert, thanks for the update and further information.  Hope you are able to achieve what you are seeking here.
