Changing licensed email address

Thread needs solution

It's possible that in the near future I will have to change my broadband provider, and thus my email address.  I've explored the accounts profile for a means of changing the email address, and that's the one thing that an edit of the profile locks out.  So, how do I change the licensed email address for my True Image license?

I'd recommend clicking on the support link in your account and submitting a request to support. I also see the same issue.

My recollection is that there is a knowledge base article on how to do this. 17998: How to сhange account e-mail

Ian

PS It took a while to find it - search took several steps to isolate it. I knew it existed so I persevered.

Unfortunately this article info is inaccurate.

I downloaded the article, printed it out and tried to access that page to change email - as a test to get to the page.

- account login - OK

- no link to the my/profile/change page, so typed that link into the address bar.  Page was blank - no error, just blank.  Repeatedly.  This method is a bust.

BUT

in the account page there is a profile item, and leads to the attached page image.  There is no ability to change an email address from that page.  The change password link gets to a page that's similar but its just for passwords.

And this is where I started with this query.  HOW do you change a registered email address - Acronis on the face of it is trying real hard to make that impossible

David, the steps outlined in KB 17998: How to сhange account e-mail are working for me, in particular doing as follows:

1. Log in to your Acronis account here: https://account.acronis.com

2. Once you are logged in, click this link:

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the feedback, but did you actually read my response?

The login page had no such link in it.  And when I typed the link directly into the address bar, there was nothing there.  Thus, my assertion that it -changing email - doesn't work.  there's a page for password change, but it has no details in it for email  address.

All of that was in my reply.

I use firefox as my browser.  And FF had a major technology update in Nocv 2017 (which was beta'd for at least 6 months) which speeded the browser up significantly, like, double.  And I've already had one instance this year where a website support page did not function because the site developers had not kept up to date. Their bad. So, I did think that this might have happened here.  thus, a test of password change, and that worked fine.  So, what's going on?

You say it works.  But there's no link in my account page and the direct address simply fails.  What else does Acronis have that will work to change an email address?

David, sorry but I think that you are missing the point a little here.  There is no direct link provided from your Account Profile page to go to the email change page.  You have to click on the link in the KB document (or that I copied into my update above) and do this after you have first signed in with your current Account credentials (on the normal Account page).

If your FF browser does not take you to that page, then please try a different browser to follow those same steps.  I am using Google Chrome and it does work for me using the same steps.

If you still have a problem with doing this, then either send a PM to Ekaterina or else open a Support Case direct with Acronis and I am sure that they will make the change for you.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the prompt follow up.

First, browsers.  I tried what I had been doing in Explorer and got exactly the same result.

Then came back here in FF and read your update, and clicked the link directly from this thread - and that did work.  Obviously, that link hides a more detailed address, for reasons not obvious.

Politely put, this mechanism is crazy.  Links in a documents ordinarily work either with a click or by replicating (typing) in the address bar, and the text of the article did not in any way suggest any different.  Acronis uses that technique in quite a few articles that I've read.  Particularly useful when actioning text from a printout.

Email addresses are as much part of a profile as passwords, so why this 'change email' item is not allowed when logged and editing a profile does not make sense.  If avoiding accidental change is the issue then allowing one or the other in the same logged in session, then it could be change address or password, but not both.

I'll post a feedback suggestion citing this thread.

Hello David,

Have you changed the registration email? If not, please send me your new email in a personal message and I'll help.
I've passed your feedback to the respective team. This behavior is expected to be changed in the future updates of the website, so that a user can change the email address directly in the profile. Currently we have to follow the way described in the KB article due to some architectural hurdles.

Hi Ekaterina,

Thanks for responding.

No, I haven't changed the address yet.  It will be a few weeks yet before I commit, but on evidence to date that's what I'll have to do.  Given that probability, I was checking the change process on a  number of sites I have accounts with, and most have a simple change process - and some have a discouraging method similar to Acronis.

If the website hasn't changed when that email changes, I'll get back to you.  Thanks again.

David
