Error Message "Driver not found ID: ACPI\VEN_INT&DEV_344B" by cloning a SSD-Drive

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have created a USB-Boot-Stick with TrueImage Home 2018 and would clone a ssd-drive.

short time before the cloning is ended, I get a error message:

" Driver not found.

ID: ACPI\VEN_INT&DEV_344B

Insert a USB drive with this driver.

Or use a boot drive with universal restore..."

What is here the Problem?

Thanks for your help.

Juergen, sorry but too little information to know where to start advising here?

What exactly are you doing, and how are you doing it?

Cloning should be a 1:1 duplicate copy of the source drive to the target drive, and should not require any additional device drivers to be installed unless you are using a connection for the target drive that is not used for the source drive when in operation.

Juergen,

I suspect that you are using the Linux based Recovery Media (USB-Boot-Stick with TrueImage Home 2018) to perform the clone procedure when you got this driver request?

This can happen if the media incorrectly determines that the Windows OS and the disk interface are not the same.  When this happens Universal Restore is automatically applied to address the false error driver issue.

You might try to boot the disk, it might work as the actual cloning should be complete and that process finished.  If the disk will not boot then create and use WinPE Recovery Media (USB boot media) to clone which should allow the clone operation to complete without the issue you are having now.

Hi Steve,

I have created with TrueImage 2018 a Win10 PE-USB Boot-Stick. I have changed on my Notebook (OS: Windows 10 Pro) the old 256GB SSD to a new 1TB SSD Drive. I have bootet the Notebook with this Boot-Stick and want clone the SSD's. I choosed the Option that the Partition should be adjusted proportionally. The target are 3 partitions 260MB System, 977GB OS and 500MB Recovery partition.

My solution was I have make an Image from the 256GB SSD and move this Image on the 1TB SSD. I have with  Acronis Disk Director 12  the OS partition increased to 977GB.

I don't know where is the problem by cloning from a small to a large SSD. I have tested the cloned SSD, but Windows runs not correct.

Thanks Juergen

Juergen,

Thanks for your reply indicating that WinPE also exhibits this issue.

Juergen, thanks for the further information.

Can I clarify a further point here?  Are you using cloning, or are you doing a Backup & Recovery here?

My own approach to this type of change of drive would be as follows:

1.  Create a Full Disk & Partitions backup of the source 250GB SSD to an external drive.

2.  Remove the 250GB SSD and replace with the new 1TB SSD.

3.  Boot from the Acronis Rescue Media (with the external backup drive connected).

4.  Recover the Disk & Partitions backup image to the 1TB SSD.

5.  Check the Log on the Rescue Media for any errors before restarting the computer from the new SSD.

An alternative approach would be to use the new Live cloning feature of ATI 2018 where you can connect the new 1TB SSD as an external drive to the Notebook (assuming this is possible) then ensuring that the new SSD has been cleared of any OS, start the live clone from within ATI 2018 running with Windows 10.  Once the clone has completed successfully, shutdown and change over the SSD drives before restarting with just the new SSD installed.

Hi Steve,

The error message occurred only when cloning the complete hard drive from 256GB to the new 1TB and short of the end oft the cloning process, approximately at 99%.

When I create a full backup-image and restore this on the new hard drive, the error does not occur, so I have then so implemented the solution.

This has the disadvantage that the free space of the larger hard drive can not be adjusted.

I will this cloning test again und make a picture from the error message.

Perhaps helps this further.

Is there a possible to check a log-file of errors after the clone process on the Win10 PE boot drive and where I can found this file?

Hi Steve,

I have saved the log file for the cloning process.

The log file has 234 messages. The content of the log file is in german language, because is a german release of True Image 2018 Home.

Can I publish this log file here in the forum or does the log file have any content that is not intended for the public?

thanks.

Juergen, you can just attach the log file using the File Upload option and I can use Google Translate to read the contents.

Regarding the backup & recovery not letting you adjust the free space on the new larger drive, I normally use the free MiniTool Partition Wizard to make any adjustments to partition size and find this is very easy to do and preferable in many cases.

Hi Steve,

in attachment ist the log file.

Maybe you find the cause of the problem.

thanks.

Juergen, thank you for the log, this confirms that Acronis Universal Restore is being invoked when you are doing your clone task and it is this that is then generating the error message(s) about missing device drivers.

The only reason I can think of why AUR is being used is that there is some difference in the hardware used to attach the target drive for the clone.

The final message in the log states:

The clone drive action has completed successfully.

If you want to use the cloned drive with the same computer (current hardware):
1. Shut down the computer and turn it off.
2. Remove the source drive.
3. Turn on the computer.

If you want to use the cloned drive with a computer with similar hardware:
1. Remove the cloned drive.
2. Connect it to a new computer.

If you want to use the cloned drive with a computer with dissimilar hardware:
1. Download the Acronis Universal Restore Media Builder.
2. Prepare the drivers needed for the target computer.
3. Start the downloaded Media Builder and create an Acronis Universal Boot Medium.
4. Start the computer with the created boot medium and make the cloned system bootable

I have attached the full (translated) log below in case any of the other MVP's or regular users want to comment on this:

Steve, I want to use the cloned drive with the same computer and same hardware.

The only difference is the size of the drive. The original SSD-Drive was 256GB and then new SSD-drive is 1TB.
I have done the following steps after the message "The clone drive action has completed successfully.":

1. Shut down the computer and turn it off.
2. Remove the source drive.
3. Turn on the computer with the cloned new drive.

The computer boots un Windows 10, but some functions does not run correctly e.g. mouse pad, touch screen etc.

Why clones True Image media builder the drives not 1:1 identical?   That's actually the job of True Image.

Juergen, the only answer I can give you is that ATI is trying to be a little 'too clever' here by invoking AUR when it should not be needed.

I wonder what would show if your ATI Rescue Media did not include AUR when you do the clone?

Personally, this is a reason for not using cloning and using Backup & Recovery instead.

I would suggest opening a Support Case with Acronis to ask why AUR is being invoked here and is producing a non-identical clone of the source drive?

Steve, Thank you for your support.

Yes  I will make a support question for this Problem.

In the past, older releases of ATI, the clone function worked well.
