WIndows 10 does not activate on other but exact same Laptop model after ATI recovery of Disk.
I run computer classes and have 10 exact same laptops make Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo Model D9510 2GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics, Windows 10 Pro installed on every machine with digital license key.
To speed up course preparation, I wanted to restore a Disk Backup to every of the 9 other laptops.
Nice idea, but fails when I want to activate Windows 10 license on the 9 restored backups.
Activation says that a digital Win 10 pro license was found, and I should now install same version- which is exactly what the restored system is: WIn 10 pro.
Reentering then a native win 10 pro key- or the original key which was used on the specific laptop does not help.
Activations seems not to "know" that a Win 10 pro was restored.
Reinstallation with a Windows Media creation DVD immediately is activated- so the process works from a Microsoft perspective. What doe I have to "change" to make this work?
Thanks

In reply to Reinhard, my understanding… by truwrikodrorow…

The option for the drive signature is found on the 'Destination of Disk 1' panel of the Recovery Wizard.
See the attached PDF document showing how to perform a Disk Restore using ATI 2017 but which remains the same for 2018 too. The drive signature option is shown on page 4 of the document in the screen image shown there.

The tip did not help.
At first, after recovery WIth the hook set at "Recover Disk Signature", the activation windows shows "WIndows is activated" hurra.... and after 60 seconds ...same situation.
I will open a ticket at ATI support
Thanks you.

I researched on Microsoft support pages and found this in the german support area:
dated July 2017 describing exactly the same problem, with Win 10 pro version 1703.
It has nothing to do with ATI, any image restore program causes the same issue.
The activation server apparantly is unable to detect that the restored system is a Win 10 pro
if restored not on the same motherboard/Bios combination on which the backup was made.
The solution:
Just enter any WIndows 10 pro key- but NOT Win 7,8, and the System is activated.
The key actually can be used many times ffor this purpose- the poster says- if the sytsems had a valid digital key before.
I did not yet restore all 9 machines yet, but will post if it is true and all 9 can are activated with just one Win 10 pro key.

Thanks for sharing that information Reinhard, it will be interesting to know if the solution works? The only real downside if for those users who only have a digital license (from upgrading from Win 7 or 8) so have no serial to enter.
