Target Drive Full Cleanup

Thread needs solution

Hi:

I've recently upgraded some machines to TI 2018 and still have some on TI 2015 and I come across this issue constantly with 2015 when the target drive (Ext USB drive) runs out of space, it comes up with ignore, retry and obviously this is extremely annoying and I'm hoping this is no longer the case with TI 2018.  When I hit ignore I believe it starts an entirely new chain and doesn't recognize the older chain when it comes to automatic cleanup?  Is there a way of setting it so it deletes the oldest backup when it needs more space?  I also understood that when I want to free up space on the target drive I would have to delete the most recent backups instead of the oldest in order to keep the same backup job functional.  Has any of this improved or changed in the 2018 version?

Thanks!
Keith

Keith,

Space requirements have not changed between version upgrades.  It is necessary that when you setup a backup scheme that you anticipate that there is enough space on disk for the scheme to work as expected.

When setting up a scheme you need space for 2 full backups of the total data plus room for any incremental or differential backups that the scheme will generate.  The reason for this requirement is to insure that you do not loose any of your data.  Thus when a backup scheme is at completion, the app will first perform a new full version backup file of the data prior to cleanup of old data thus the requirement for 2 full backups.  If you have chosen to keep the original full version you can have requirements for 3 full versions at times.
