True Image 2010 not closing properly on Windows 7 x64

Thread needs solution

I am running a new desktop with a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional x64. I recently purchased Acronis True Image Home 2010 (maybe a mistake). I am using version 6053.

When I first boot my machine and run ATI 2010, everything seems fine. I can make backups and verify them no problem. When I close ATI 2010, I noticed I could never re-open it, no matter how many times I clicked on the icon.

I discovered in Task Manager, that it would never shut down. I will always have TrueImageMonitor.exe *32 running. When I open ATI 2010, I see TrueImage.exe *32 as a task. When I close ATI 2010, it disappears from my desktop (seems to close normally), but TrueImage.exe *32 is still running. When I click on my icon to start ATI 2010, another TrueImage.exe *32 starts. Click 5 times, get 5 TrueImage.exe *32 tasks, but nothing on my desktop. This won't go away unless I reboot.

This seems similar to another thread. So I tried SnapAPI503. No difference.

Now I tried to restore my images. For my full image, when it starts to reboot, I get a "kernel panic" error message, and the computer hangs. For my email / file image, it just seems to take forever. I left it running 12 hours at high priority, and it said it was only 50% done.

All these images can be verified by the program. This is very frustrating, and I am concerned that ATI does not work at all with Windows 7 x64. Can anyone provide help or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I have TI 2010 build 5053 running on Win 7 x64. I usually backup from within windows but do all restores using the Rescue CD. Since I only do manual backups, I have disabled all True Image items in Startup.

CBH, have you downloaded and installed the latest compatibility patches for W7 64 bit? IT might also be worth checking that TI isn't running in XP compatibility mode - you'll need to right click on the TI executable and check the appropriate tab.

When the Linux CD reports Kernel Panic - then it is having a problem recognising part of your hardware. Try using the Safe Mode and see if that helps. If you haven't already, you'll need to download the Safe Mode option from your Acronis Account, install and then remake the boot CD.

DwnNDrty,

I've finally gotten TI 2010 to work by using build 5505 (as suggested in other posts). But I purchased TI 2010 to do more than just manual backups. For example, it will not restore email / files with the rescue CD.

Colin,

If you are talking about the Microsoft patches, then yes - my W7 x64 is fully updated. No, it is not running in compatibility mode. Installing build 5505 does shut it down properly.

And no, I do not get the Kernel Panic using the CD (I can get the CD to work). I get the Kernel Panic when I restore from Windows and it reboots.

Bottom line: I'm getting very frustrated with TI 2010 in that it seems to have many show stopping bugs. I should have checked these forums before I purchased...

As it is a Linux environment in both cases (Windows reboots into Linux ) I'm not sure why one works and the other doesn't.

I'll have a look and see if the kernel files are the same.

I am still using 5055, it looks as though some of the fixes in 6053 broke parts that weren't broken to begin with.

Ive encountered the same problem, but under Win 7 Ultimate x86. in the process windows there are 3 acronis processes as on my screen-shot [h..p://i53.tinypic.com/2vdnnkk.jpg]
when i close the application I cannot later re-open it /launch again.
Ive tried to close one TrueImage.exe process but it doesn't want to close. But, after 10min time I m able to launch app again :] why so long???

I have the latest TI2010 update build 7.046

any suggestions are welcome how to fix it
