Don't believe that time notation. It will adjust during the back up process.

Hello all,
Thank you very much for your posts. I am sorry for the delay but I will definitely assist you with this.
norhisham norhisham,
There are many factors affecting the backup speed, some of them being hardware or USB speed. From your description of your setup and from my experience, 2 to 3 hours would be a good time to backup 80 GBs of data. Also, as Jim Moss correctly pointed out, our software tends to decrease the estimated time after a few minutes.
Just in case, if you feel that the backup is taking too long, please feel free to use our Knowledge Base article that deals with Slow Backup Speed in Acronis True Image.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.

I have followed all the instructions provided here for speeding up the backup and it is still taking over 20 hours, and I'm not even using the computer during the backup. The drive being backed up is only about 42GB and over half is free space. Most of the time is taken in the check for viruses. Can I turn this check off when I make a backup? My computer is constantly being checked for viruses, so why must the entire hard drive be rechecked when a total disk image is made?
By the way, I didn't have this problem with the previous version of Acronis Home.

Hello harmonp,
Thank you very much for your post. I will definitely assist you with this.
Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience. Most likely there is a scheduled computer scan running that is affecting your backup progress. You can check and re-configure it from the main program menu by pressing the Antivirus -> Virus Scan tab. Please take a look on page 283 of our user guide for additional information.
If you continue to experience issues, I would really appreciate if you can collect this report and contact our Support team with a brief decription of the issue.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

Sorry I can't offer any suggestions to solve your problem, but just wanted to give you an idea of what it should be able to achieve speed-wise. I use the older version TI11 from 2007.
I have two different machines with similar hard drive usage as the two people that are having problems on this thread. Both machines do full backups to external USB in 15-20 minutes, producing a .tib file of about 15-16GB from a total used space in the 20-25GB range. Neither machine is high-performance, one has 1GB of RAM and an old Athlon processor, the other is a 2GB laptop with a low-end dual core. I never turn off or disable my anti-virus during backups, and have used both Kaspersky and Symantec AV products on these machines. If you have more RAM available you should be able to run even faster than the times I mention.
If you haven't already done so please follow the troubleshooting guide referenced, if nothing obvious shows up then uninstall and try a new installation using only the basic features.

Also, your antivirus software mght be doing a check on each disk access -- very bad behavior for an antivirus program and will really scre up ATI backup times or merely scaning the entire trueimage program file when you start the backup. To fix theis you would have to disable the antivirus software while backing up or in the settings for the antivirus prog, tell it to exclude ATI from scans. This is done in different ways with diff antivirus progs so you'll have to consult the manual for the antivirus prog.
Sometimes specifying in the antivirus program to exclude the application is enough; sometimes you have to specify each of the exe fils in the Program Files\Acronis directory.
Generally you should figure about 1-3GB per minute when backup oup to internal ddrives and at most 3 times that time if using the BootCD. Any longer than those kinds of times, then something is amiss.

I found that if I turned off the antivirus scanning in the backup options, the disk image was made in a normal amount of time. With the Acronis backup antivirus option turned on, even after 24 hours, Acronis was still scanning and the backup hadn't even started. Something wrong here. Anyway, as stated above, turning antivirus scanning off lets the backup proceed normally.

Glad to hear you narrowed the problem down significantly.
Not all antivirus do this. Could be this one hasn't taken steps to properly recognize ATI. Or it could be that during install some driver conflict arose that shows up only when running ATI and the AV at the same time.
I'd write to both companies and ask if they could re the apparent conflict. Frist I do this with whichever program was installed last. Uninstall it. Use msconfig.exe to disable all non-microsoft services and startup programs. then reinstall, the use msconfig.exe to restore all normal startups. That might solve the problem. Sometimes, AVs will prevent a prog from installing properly and msconfig should help to avoid install conflicts.
