Continuing Cloud backup after system rebuild

Thread needs solution

Hi forum,

I am using the trail of Acronis True Image 2018 to see if it a a suitable replacement for Crashplan.

I often rebuild my machine (re-install the OS), but I keep my data on second and third hard drives (D and E) that are not touched during the OS rebuild.

With Crashplan, after the rebuild I could "adopt" the previous cloud backup and it would do a quick sync to realise that the data on D and E had not changed and therefore does not need to be re-uploaded.  Only data on C is re-uploaded.

How can I achieve the same with True Image?  I am using Acronis Cloud as the destination and I don't fancy having to re-upload 400GB+ each time I rebuild, when none of that data has changed.  Also losing the file history each time would be a pain.

I'm using a File & Folders backup, if that matters.

Thanks in advance

Hello Stewart,

I think you are talking about backup reconfiguration:

https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2018/#40832.html

(Reconfigure (for online backups) - allows you to bind a selected online backup to the current computer. To do this, click this item and reconfigure settings of the backup. Note that only one online backup can be active on one computer)

Basically, when you reinstall, you will see your Cloud backup in the Acronis True Image console. All you will need to do is click the Reconfigure button so that Acronis True Image scans what you already have in the Cloud and back up an incremental backup of the new data.

Hi Renata,

That was it! Perfect, thank you very much.

It's a shame it doesn't seem to automatically re-select the same folders that were selected before, but I can live with that.

It does reselect automatically when you have Entire PC backup. However, we have a technical limitation for file/folder backup. I noted your feedback, we will see whether we can implement it.
