snapman.sys crashes Windows 7 periodicaly

Thread needs solution

I have been having a problem ever since I upgraded to acronis 2017.  Snapman.sys will occationally crash the system. It can go days or months between times.  Accronis support was unable to assist, and now they say I am out of support.  Below is a dump from whocrashed showing the same crash two days in a row.  Anyone know how to fix this?

This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.

Stephen, I have not seen any other recent reports of snapman.sys causing Windows to crash in these forums, plus as you have been advised by Acronis, support for ATI 2017 ended in October 2017, so there will be no further updates or fixes produced for that product.

This really leaves very few options for dealing with this issue.

Please see KB 60915: Acronis True Image: repairing program settings and consider the options that are offered there, plus also check the linked documents at the end of this KB.

Another option / tool is to try running the free Acronis VSS Doctor program (link in my signature) as this is directly related to creating snapshot data, which snapman.sys is used for.

The point of the above suggestions is to ensure that you are using the correct / latest version of the snapman.sys program.  If you have other Acronis products such as Disk Director, then this too can provide a different version of snapman.sys which could be involved here.

Thank you for the information.  I tried VSS Doctor and it found a couple of issues which I let it fix.  Now it seems happy.  Now to see if the crashes become less frequent.....

Just a follow up.  I have had no more crashes so it seems VSS Doctor did fix something.  Thanks again for the assistance.

Stephen, glad to hear all looks good - thanks for the feedback.

Hi,

I made my way to this thread because i'm having a similar issue. I guess I'll have to upgrade to 2019 from 2017. DO you suggest uninstalling or is there an upgrade from 2017?
