Restore TI2009 backup under different OS?
Hi guys,
I've been a user of ATIH for a few years now and am only starting to encounter a potential problem with the software (it's been great for me up until now!), I wondered if anyone might be able to help...
I'm currently running TI2009 on my netbook under Windows xp. I intend to (finally!) install a version of Windows7 that I purchased sometime ago and want to restore some of the files/folders that I have backed up.
Is it possible (once I install Windows 7) to successfully restore my files/folders to a machine that was backed up under a different OS?
Apologies if this is a simple question, I've tried 'googling' and searching these forums but I couldn't find a definitive answer.

You should be able to. Note that depending on the amount of data, you may find Exploring or Mounting the backup to be easier (copy & paste). You would need to use a Windows 7 compatible version of TI.
In addition, you may need to set file permissions if they don't work after the restore.

If they are Windows related or programs files/folders, you cannot just restore them to a new OS. If they are data files you should be able to mount the image and copy them using Windows Explorer, however as TI2009 may not be Windows 7 compatible you will have to use the Rescue CD
Download and read the relevant sections of Grover's True Image Guides link on the left of the screen, alternatively download and read the relevant parts of the User Guide see the link at the left of the screen
Thanks for your reply :)
I've done a complete back up of my entire netbook, but I am wanting to restore certain folders (data, music, photos and movies). Specifically, I used (in TI2009) Create Backup Task>My Computer ("Create an image of the entire disk or partition"). Yes, the backup is saved on an external 1TB hdd.
From what I've read it seems that TI2009 isn't Windows 7 compatible, but there does seem to be uncertainty as some people report that it is possible to use the 2009 version under a Windows 7 OS - this is what has confused me. In reality, for the sake of another £20 from Amazon, it might just be worth my while buying the 2011 version as it is compatible with W7...

Therein lies the problem! I'm happy to spend another £20 on TI2011 but wanted to know if TI2009 is compatible (it seems that it is officially not, but some people have reported that it might work) - I need your expert advice!

My advice would be to stick with a version that is officially Windows 7 compatible.
If you want to try TI 2009, by all means do so. Just understand that there may be problems later even it it works okay now. One of the problems I've seen is users installing older uncompatible versions and then having a nightmare time trying to get it off the system so they can upgrade or replace it. It can also cause problems when using other Acronis programs (DD 11, for example) because they are not compatible.
And, I'm sure you know, being officially Windows 7 compatible doesn't mean that everything works perfectly on Windows 7.
